Mad Math…

Wow! I’ve been telling people for quite some time that Blogomania hosts over 300 clients. I just did the math, and it’s actually a bit higher than that – 371! Whoo hoo! I guess I need to do the math more often.

Need hosting a new host? What are you waiting for? Come and join us!

Do You iTune?

I’ve been using iTunes 4.1 for quite some time. Problem is, now I want to wipe my iPod clean and start fresh because it has some buggy issues at times. (Screens freezing in slide transitions, etc.) I’m hoping that with a quick reformat, it will heal itself. Only problem is, in order to use the iPod Updater to reformat, I need to upgrade my iTunes software to version 4.6.

Is that a big deal?

One of my main reasons to hesitate on this is how iTunes marries itself to your iPod and your computer – at least from what I have heard. There are at least 3 computers here that I might use at any given time to update my iPod, and I don’t want to be locked down. (I would probably use the laptop, but it really needs to go in for repair soon to fix the whole delete key issue, so I’m trying to plan ahead.) I recall reading a great post that Matt wrote about this when iTunes made the change, but I can’t find it now. found right here.

Added to the mix, we keep all of our mp3s on our main computer, but Mike has music that I don’t want on the iPod (sorry, but Irish fiddle music just isn’t my thing normally. Or Japanese drums. He has a lot of both of those.) so I don’t want to have to put everything on the iPod. I don’t think I would have to, but just in case. I don’t want my sync with the PC to jack with the existing music collection there. Again, I don’t think it will – but you have to preplan for these things.

What have been your experience with iTunes? Anyone using one iPod with two computers? Are there problems? I would love your feedback. Oh, and I’m considering Anapod because drag & drop just sounds easier than dealing with iTunes. Feel free to share feedback on Anapod too if you have any. And thank you for your help.

Do You KnowSpam?

I’m soooo tired of getting spam. I get a lot of spam. Tons of spam. Sometimes a hundred messages a day of spam. SpamAssassin gets some of them, but not all. Thunderbird flags some of them, but not all. That leaves me spending a lot of time deleting spam. I hate spam.

I’m considering giving Knowspam.net a try, but I would love some feedback first. Anyone KnowSpam? Love it? Hate it? Used it for a day and threw it away? Used it forever and can’t live without it? Tell me what you think… Help save me from the killer spam!

My WordPress Wishlist…

After using WordPress for a few months, I am impressed. I knew I would be, so it’s not really much of a surprise. My site loads much faster than it ever did before, and it is easier for you to make comments. Speed is king! However, there are a few things I miss from MT and a few things I simply wish were included. Here’s the list:

– While editing an existing post, I wish I could view and edit or delete every comment associated with that post. I would like to see them all listed on the post editing page, with the ability edit them or delete them.

– While under Edit > Comments, I wish there was a way to list the next x comments – for example, I had a lot of comments today. They aren’t all listed (some have scrolled off), and there is no “next” option available.

– While under Edit > Moderate Comments, the post that the comment was left on is not listed. It’s there in the Edit > Comments section, and you can quickly access the “Edit this post” option; but it’s not there on the moderation screen. This would be helpful so that you could tell if a comment was actually spam or relevant to the comment.

– A “select all” option for the Edit > Moderate Comments screen. If there are 46 spam comments (like I had a week or two ago), I want to be able to select all to delete them, not go through one by one to select the delete/approve/do nothing option. I like that you can moderate all of them at once, I just wish that was available to make it even easier.

– An easy way to import images and generate pop-up windows for them for blog posts. I have found some plugins available that might make this possible, I just need to test them out within the next week or two. That might make this wish a non-issue.

– An easy way to make different templates. I have a few items that I would like to have show up on my index page only, but there is no way to prevent them showing up on all of the other pages with the template setup of WP. It would be nice if this could be customized even more.

Overall, I have to report that my experience so far with WordPress has been fantastic. The wishes I have are actually pretty minor ones; I just think that having them would make running my site easier. Kudos to Matt and everyone else behind the development of WP! You should be very proud, and I’m looking forward to WP’s future!

More Gmail Invites…

I have invites to give away. If you have commented here before (on other posts), and you need one – tell me why and where to send it to. Or heck, just leave a comment. You guys never leave comments anymore, and it’s getting really lonely around here. Considering I leave comments on every blog I read … well, there should be some noise here!

Ok, back to the original point … need Gmail? Let me know.
