Happy, Happy … Joy, Joy!

I had “skinned” my site while still using Greymatter. Then the time came when GM couldn’t handle my 500+ entries, and I moved over to MT. I could never quite figure out how to use some of the features that MT offers though along with the skins. Until minutes ago. All of the sudden – POP! Some of the techniques that Jennifer used when she helped to set up the Pixelog would work perfectly. Kristine had sent an e-mail explaining a similar process to me, but I just couldn’t get it. I couldn’t work through the steps and figure it out. Until now.

So to test it out, I opened up MT, made a new index template, named it mtcalendar.php and stuck in the code for the MT Calendar. Then I went into my Skin #1 (in case you are viewing this in a different skin and wondering what I am talking about) and added the PHP Include to retrieve mtcalendar.php – and there it is. Damn. 6 months that I have wanted to do that and just now I finally got it! The lightbulb is on!

Cool! Being able to “include” files is great! I use SSI (Server Side Includes) but (eventually) want to move to PHP. The items in my sidebars and the header and footer are all separate files that are included into the pages using an SSI command. Each section (categories, calendar, etc.) that MT needs to update has its own template file that builds a file containing the info and that file is included in the page by an SSI command. It allows for modular updating and moving things around easily.

That’s cool. Want to share with me how you’re getting the IP logged on your comments? I saw the hack for it and changed my .cgi file, but then I started getting Internal Server Errors! D’oh! Oh……… maybe I didn’t upload it in the right format. Hmmmmm.

Hiya Christine.

CHIME

I’ve been reading yer blog for a bit now, and thought I’d chime in. Don’t ask me how I found it, I dont remember. But anyway…Here’s a thought for ya, since you say you can skin yer site, (I changed my skin preference from the pink pic happy to the blue gray one) mebbe a skin with a larger font size? I must be the only person who either A: doesnt have a 25 inch monitor, or B: sits right up close and personal to their monitor, most of the “A” list blogs have teensy weensy 6 pt type.

Thanks, and keep up the neat-o work, yours, among others, has been an inspiration.

You’re right, of course. No right click scripts are worthless on a user as advanced as yourself, but I still get email requests from people who want a pic, but couldn’t right click save it. Nowadays, I just email em the pic. You want it? Take it, have it, photoshop my ugly head onto The Incredible Hulk’s body doing terrible things to a potted plant with a fork. (That’s not a challenge, of course. Really.)

Oh! One more thing, I posted a link here, but you are the second Christine, and “another Christine” just doesnt do you justice. What’s the first letter of your last name, or other identifying moniker? Have a preference?
