Here Kitty, Kitty…

A few weeks ago there was a kitty in our backyard visiting. She’s a pretty kitty, and I didn’t mind her being out there.

Until the crying began.

I own two cats, but they both came from a rescue group, and they were fixed before they came home. I have never had a cat in heat. The crying and screaming? Oh my goodness. It was almost enough to drive me mad.

Eventually, the crying ended. Now I’m worried that she’s a knocked up preggo kitty without a home. I have only seen her once in the past few weeks. Today she was outside and let me visit with her. She let me pet her, she talked to me, she walked back and forth between my legs. And those eyes! She has such beautiful green eyes!

How can I tell if she is pregnant? She is a small cat. She looks a little wider across, but I’m not really sure – I don’t know if she was like that before. I tried to feel around while she was laying on the sidewalk, to see if I could feel baby kittens within, but I couldn’t tell anything. How long are cats pregnant? Anyone have any tips?

The usual length of pregnancy for the domestic cat is usually about 58 to 65 days.

It’s a good bet she’s knocked up. But if you are not against kitty abortions, it’s not too late to take her to the vet and fix her.

Or wait til she has them…

The vet will be able to tell you right away if she’s preggers.

Good luck with her!

Hi there! Long time reader, only the first or second time I’ve commented. Cats are usually pregnant just about a month and a half. Anyway, as Jen as already said, if you can catch kitty and get her to the vet it might not be to late to have her fixed.

However, if she’s already starting to show, it mostly likely is. Most vets aren’t willing to spay a pregnant cat after the first few weeks of pregnancy. Usually you won’t be able to visably see for the first few weeks of pregnancy. If the cat will let you touch her, and touch her belly, lightly squeeze her middle and if you feel an area where it’s noticably harder than the rest of her, those are babies. And like I said, if it’s to the point where you can feel the babies, it’s likely she’s already to far along to be fixed until after the babies are born and she’s weened them.

Best of luck with her! I had a similar experience with a cat that showed up on our farm, 2 babies in tow. I caught one baby and she’s my cat now and later, after the mother cat got pregnant again, she warmed up to us. And now we have, in addition to baby number 1 and a previous cat, 4 beautiful cats (that were her babies) and the mother cat. It gets a bit crowded around here sometimes. 😀

Hey 😉 Best thing to do is get a nice strong box lined with newspaper and old towels, and try and get her down to the vet. They can tell if she’s pg or not and you can make decisions accordingly. I’d say there’s a pretty big chance she is, if she’s little and you can notice her tummy like that.

PS I havent said before but i LOVE the design on this site 😀

Isn’t that noise amazing?!? I agree that it’s a god bet she’s preggers, especially for an outdoor cat. Depending on how long the noise lasted, though, she may just be through her cycle – it usually lasts about a week – and the warming weather (more little critters out and about) could account for the weight gain….

Good luck!

Stroke her belly. If she has nipple developement, she is pregnant. No two ways about it. Non Pregnant cats don’t have nipples sticking out.

hey good luck i am going through the same thing my cat is to and i cant wait it was wierd when i went through that noise! and now i just cant wait til she has them

I recently saved a female caclico after she got hit by a car.(yes she’s ok) I found out that she’s a preggo this is my first preggo cat and i scared what do i do HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a cat and i know she is pg cuz she has nipples i reckonised that she was eating more and more (like three-four bowls a day) and that was like 4-5 weeks ago so how long is it untill she has the kittens 🙂 !!!!

hey! my sweetie is pregnant, too! i just found out and was searching to see how long it took for them to give birth. 🙂 i’m so excited!

my cat is a indoor cat and we had a tomcat come through last week while our queen was in heat. i am sure he got her. she is still walking around crying trying go out is this normal?

My cat(Tinkerbell) is really affectionate lately and she will not stop meowing! She is an indoor cat and while we were on vacation, somehow she got outside…i think she was in heat, and idk if she’s pregnant or what. do they meow and seem really affectionate when they are?

I know just what your going through! I’ve been reasearching all day today; you see, I believe my cat to be pregnant as well, there were two mal cats round like 3 weeks ago when she was in heat, shes a lot fatter, her stomach is hard, and her nipples are big and pink, and I think I can even feel kittens in there! Good luck to you, and wish me luck as wel! I’M SO EXCITED!!! 😀

i wuold say they are prg 2 monthes . i have 6 cats and one is prg to i have had cas be prg all my life and all of them liked it when i was by them when they had them

I have a cat name princess, and she is 7 months old and we got her when she was 3 months, but anyhow, I have a male name garfield and garfield wanted to do it with princess, but i didn’t let him cause i have 5 cats. But anyhow, i think garfield did it with princess, and this happened in august and we got garfield nuetured at the end of august. But princess been acting different, she meows a lot out of nowhere and she is more affectionate then she was before, also her breast feels like she have milk in it and is growing and is very pink, but her nipple looks the same. Her stomach looks different and discharge coming out of the vagina, but no foul smell, she had the discharge for a month…..can she be pregnant?

My cat, Lucy, came to me pregnant and she had the kittens (5) and she got outside again and got pregnant again so now we are waiting. This time I’m taking her in afterwards to make sure she doesn’t have any more. She’s very large and her nipples are protruding again and yes, she is very affectionate. She’s also angry with my other cats every time they come near her. Two of them are her babies from the first litter, now 5 months old. She seems to be angry she got pregnant again. Also, I have another female cat, Jagger, and she has always been an outside cat and she never gets pregnant. Are some cats unable to have babies like some people???? I think it’s weird that it never happens to her and Lucy goes out once and BAM! Oh, I love this site. Thanks for all the info. Vicki

Hey my cat is pregos but u can’t hardly tell it happend around the first week of december. So she is close to having her babies but she is going around all week like she is in heat? is that possible even thou she is pregos???

I have a cat her stomach is quite hard and the vet told me that if she didnt have worms it was that she was pregnant and i got the call today saying that she doesnt have worms so that means shes pregnant i am so exicited but to me it seems like shes not i mean her stomach is hard and all and she eats more than usual but help thanks

Hey, I took in a stray cat just befor christmas, it was really cold, and i always wanted a cat, i needed company. Anyways, my first instinct was that she was pregnant and i’m sticking to it. She had alot of…scabs down her spine, i’m assuming they where flea bites, i took care of those right away, i also gave her a bath, but i refuse to take her to the vet one: because i am broke and 2: i think they are severaly overpriced, to me a vet is like the internet, i can usually get the information for free if i look for it. We all know how expensive vets are. I know she has worms, i see them crawl out her bum, its grose, i don’t want to giver her medication because i don’t want her babies to be infected. I’m pretty sure that the kittens are born with worms if the mother has them. I heard that a home remedy was a teaspoon of coal oil and sugar (together making it 1 teaspoon) was the natural cure and had been done for years. Coal oil is basically kerosene oil, but wikopedia will tell you differently. I won’t give it to her just yet, i’m still thinking about it, eventually i will go to the vet to get things verified, it seems thats all i do with doctors, go in to get my own diagnosis verified and i’m always correct(make yeah think). Anyways i was worried that it may of been the worms that have caused her bloating? She’s a small tabby with short legs, but the first thing i noticed about her was that her bum seemed to look like 2 lil legs, but just after her hips she is bigger, wayyy bigger, it almost looks like her thigh muscle is shifted forward a.k.a not really on the thigh bone? I did noticed her stomach was hard and i thought that was wierd cause i’ve been around my parents and sisters cats and they are both very squishie, but she wasn’t. Her nipples looked normal, but about mid january i noticed 2 nipples where bigger and pinker then the rest, i almost seemed like they came out of nowehre cause the furr around them even thinned out. I’m going to assume she was pregnant about mid december. so i should be expecting valentine kittens or shortly after. Apparently a week befor they are about to have kittens their mood changes, they start looking for other places to sleep cause they are nesting and are looking for a good place to have there babies. Also 24 hours befor they have kittens they start to lactate. I believe she is only having 2, thats what i feel on her abdomen, they stick out? is that even right? cause i keep looking at other cats that are pregnant and they look like balloons, but mine just looks like a balloon with 2 bumps , could they be the placentas? cause i tried to touch them , she’s a bit touchy when it comes to her belly so i don’t often get to feel for very long. I try to put my ear to her tummy but she gives me a wierd look and jumps away. I hear no heartbeat, no movement..could they be stillborns? do stillborns stay for the entire pregnancy? or do they just prematurely birth ? I dunno, i expected more from those 2 lil bumps, when i did try to hear something, all i heard was her stomach making gurgly sounds. She does drink alot of water though, a full bowl a day, and she has had more of an appetite. I hope she knows what to do, i’m not sure if its her first litter or not, i’m going to assume it is cause she looks pretty young still, but that could be cause she’s just a small cat. She’s small to me anyways, she can’t weigh more then 7-10 pounds. I’m use to my sister and parents cat who both weight about 20 pounds! Usually when cats have a small litter its cause its there first time. What does it mean when they have vaginal fluids ? cause i know she does sometimes, but what does it mean? maybe i’ll google it like i did everything else. She’s been such an affectionate cat from the first day i got her, i’m so glad she crossed my path when she did, i really needed her as she needed me cause its bloody cold outside! I’ll try to post pictures on myspace of when she is in labor 🙂 myspace.com/pjpoison

my vat looks like she is pregnant, but she will not let anyone touch her tummy to check. But when she walks she waddles and it looks like she has two bulges on each side of her tummy

Cat pregnancy last from as little as 58 days to 70 days. If your cat does not have the kittens between that time frame- you need to take them to the vet.

We have four cats- 3 female (a calico, gray, and white-who is spayed) and 1 male. We recently witnessed my calico and male ‘in the act’ so we figured she is pregnant. Then, last night our gray one was actually letting me pet her (which is highly unlikely because she is the rebel of the group) I was petting her belly and then discoverd that her nipples were very large…we never even guessed she was pregnant. So, now we have two queens running around the house. Hopefully they will only have 1 each…we want to keep them.

It is actually pretty funny because the calico and gray are sisters…and they’re due just a few days apart.

my cat is pregnant and has been for over a month. and her belly size was big and now is back to the 3rd weeks size what should i do? some one help me i dont know any thing about what a cat is like whe she is pregnant.

I have a few questions actually….ok first will a male cat try to mate witha female even if she hasnt gone into her first heat??do female cats that have male cats around them all the time still call and squirm when in heat?and last my cat has little pink nipples i dont know if she is prgnant i dont even think she has gone in to her first heat yet …ive had other females and usually when they go in to heat YOU KNOW IT!!!lol…so anyway is it possible for her to be pregnant

Want to see something funny? Oh, come on. You know you do. Cat-Scan.Com Why would a cat-scan be funny? Because these people are using their scanners to scan their cats! This is just classic! [via A.]

This site was really active over a year ago and then they stopped updating! I go back every few months to see if anything new is up but alas… it looks like it has died. 🙁 It used to be a favorite of mine.

I’ve always loved this site, in an odd sort of way. I think poor cats, but then you can’t help but laugh at them smooshed up against the glass like that. Cats just have such an attitude that they’re so pickonable! (yes, that’s a word, I just made it up)

I have to try that with one of my fat kitties. I’m sure they’ll love the heat of the scanner bed and never want to move. Does it hurt their eyes, do you think?

Here, Kitty, Kitty…

As if I wasn’t laughing hard enough tonight, there are Dvorakitties on Chris Pirillo’s blog. Those are great! I especially like the evil look of Dvorakitty II.

Here Kitty, Kitty…

Chelsey looked at a house for rent on Saturday. Close to mine (yeah!) but they didn’t get it. (BUMMER.) She lives 45 minutes away in the school district from Hell. Anyways … when she was looking at the house she discovered an adorable long hair tortoise-shell colored (calico-ish without the white) cat living in the back yard. HUNGRY. We went and got it food at Wal-Mart and went back to feed it later on. It is undernourished with skinny sides, a lot like my Murphy was when I got him. She (we are pretty sure it’s a she) was GORGEOUS. And soooo sweet, but then again she was hungry & we had food. No collar, no tags – we think the previous owners left her behind, or maybe she was lost and they couldn’t find her to take her with them.

Chelsey said at first that she didn’t need “another mouth to feed” with one cat (whose sibling she didn’t take because she only wanted one), 3 dogs (2 Bischons, 1 Lab), and 2 horses. I said I would take her, but then she told me she wanted her. So we left her there with food for a day or two, and Doug went back and fed her again yesterday. Now … Chelsey said I could go back and get her. But … 3 cats? Will I be known as the crazy lady with 3 cats? Will she do well with the other 2? (Who don’t get along at all anyways.) I doubt if Mona would like her. Murphy is cool though, and maybe she would be more willing to play then Mona is. But at times we are finally feeling “settled” – like this morning when I woke up and they were both sleeping on the bed with me. I was surprised, Mona normally runs if Murphy gets that close.

And my parents already think I am nuts for having 2 cats. What sort of crap will I get from them for taking in a 3rd one?

But she is sooooooo pretty. And no kitty deserves to be abandoned like that. And if worse comes to worse, and she doesn’t fit in at our house with the other 2 cats, I am sure I could take her to the people that I adopted my other two from – they take in stray rescue kitties. I would need to take her in to make sure she doesn’t have fleas, etc. so the other guys don’t get sick, because that would suck. I hate to go get her tonight because I will be out of town tomorrow and here at work on Friday. Hmmm… But she sure is pretty. I love kitties. Suxor. What should I do?
