Hurricane that wrecked Galveston was deadliest in U.S. history. It always amazes me to see how much of Galveston was wiped out in the Hurricane of 1900.

Amusing note: Prior to the Hurricane, Galveston was on its way to becoming the port city of the Gulf. After the storm, Houston ended up getting the port traffic and Galveston never recovered. Historians say that if the hurricane hadn’t come, Houston would be a suburb.
