I was listening to a CD of the greatest hits from the ’80s, and I realized what is missing from today’s music – people seem to have lost that fine art of using the synthesizer. There is nothing like a good electric synthesized beat to get you going while you’re driving down the road. Know what I mean?

cueing up some Depeche Mode… I just can’t get enough…
*rummages for Eurythmics cds…*
:O)
if you have Time Warner digital cable, it’s channel 797 for 80’s music. love that synthesizer, baby!
Christine, you just have to know where to find it…there are tons of people still using keyboards, samplers, and the like when they release music today. Let me know if you’re interested, and I can point you in the right direction.
But is it the same as that good ol’ 80s cheesy music? I mean, you listen to songs like “Ghostbusters” and … well, you just don’t hear music like that any more!
“well, you just don’t hear music like that any more!”
Thank the Lord!
I was alwasy more into the Underground/Punk stuff. I never did like all that Cheesy synth and Hairband stuff.
Orgy does a pretty good job using a synthesizer..
*Some* might argue that there’s a reason you don’t hear music like that anymore … 😉 That said, there was a short article in Wired a few months ago (I think) about the inventor of the original synthesizers that was pretty interesting … it mentioned that some synthesizers were being reintroduced into music these days.
Christine… As a member of the goth scene, I must tell you that MANY goth/synth/industrial groups are using that same synth sound. Check out VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, and Apoptygma Bezerk.
like totally!
Absolutely right. Nothing good ever came of not using an analogue synth.
Synthesizer used these days, you won’t hear anything like Take On Me, but the Prodigy uses a lot of sythesizer work in their tracks.
ummm, there was only one good sythesizer song: Jump, Van Halen. I’m glad it is dead.
I miss cowbells. Actually, that may be more like the 70s.
