Office Observations…

My observations after a very long day at work:

:: I can use a Marks-A-Lot marker to dial my phone. This requires far less effort than dialing with my hand because I don’t have to reach quite so far.

:: All people that use “Thx” for “Thanks” in business e-mails should be bitch-slapped. Leave the abbreviations in the chat room or on IM – it doesn’t belong in work e-mail. (Note: None of my co-workers did this. It was in documents I was producing for a case.)

:: Having a celebration for a co-worker’s birthday is a good thing. We had food from Chick-Fil-A for lunch, and a birthday cake to go with it. Yummm…

:: Any crisis you can think of is guaranteed to take place while the secretary takes a day off. Documents will be lost, things will be going crazy, it will be a madhouse. When the secretary returns (thank goodness she’ll be back tomorrow!) you should always remember to thank her for the peace and sanity she brings to the world.

oh man. now i want a chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A. DO you think it’s true that they marinate the chicken in pickle juice? have you heard this? If that is true, then I find it extremely ironic as the first thing I do when I get the sandwich is take off the pickles. 😀

🙂 in business emails… I’m currently in a pretty relaxed company, and some of the people I manage are in kiev. a smiley face can go a long way to help communication.
after all, it’s just an email. it’s not like they’re talking jive during a meeting.. 😉

Hi Christine,

You don’t know me, but I have been reading your blog for a while. I don’t have one of my own (at the moment), which is why I haven’t commented before. I came across the article below (I hope the URL works) and thought you might be interested in reading it, since you work in a law firm.

I am a patent lawyer at a company in Fort Worth (yes, Texas). I used to work at a law firm in Austin (loved Austin, hated firm life). Love my job in-house.

I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog on a daily basis – keep up the great work! Also enjoy your other site, Picture Yourself. Have fun in Boston next week and keep up the great work!

My work email address is above, home is teejo7324@charter.net (just in case – I hardly ever access my work email from home/on weekends).

The corollary to the “Secretary Rule” is that the network only ever goes down when the IT guy is on vacation. I speak from experience.
