Oompa Loompa Doompadee Do!

Have I ever mentioned that I love “Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”? Ok, sure – the first part of the movie is a real snoozefest. And why on earth are all the grandparents sleeping together in one bed? And Grandpa Joe has been laying there for years, but he can just jump up and spend a day wandering around the factory when Charlie gets his Golden Ticket? I mean … come on! The entire movie is a stretch of the imagination, but it still rocks. And I love the Oompa Loompas. I know, some people find them creepy and scary, but I love the bits of wisdom that they share time & time again. What do you think? Creepy or scary?

After watching the scene with Veruca Salt and her rant on “Don’t care how … I want it now!” I had to find the lyrics! I have posted them here too in case you want to sing along with me!

Veruca Salt:
Gooses! Geeses!
I want my geese to lay gold eggs for Easter
It will, sweetheart
At least a hundred a day
Anything you say
And by the way
What?
I want a feast.
You ate before you came to the factory
I want a bean feast!
Oh, one of those
Cream buns and doughnuts and fruitcake with no nuts
So good you could go nuts
You can have all those things when you get home
No, now!!

I want a ball
I want a party
Pink macaroons and a million balloons
And performing baboons and …
Give it to me
Rrhh rhhh
Now!

I want the world
I want the whole world
I want to lock it all up in my pocket
It’s my bar of chocolate
Give it to me
Now!

I want today
I want tomorrow
I want to wear ’em like braids in my hair
And I don’t want to share ’em

I want a party with room fulls of laughter
Ten thousand tons of ice cream
And if I don’t get the things I am after
I’m going to scream!

I want the works
I want the whole works
Presents and prizes and sweets and surprises
Of all shapes and sizes
And now
Don’t care how
I want it now
Don’t care how
I want it now

Oompa Loompas:
Oompa Loompa doompadee doo
I’ve got another puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa doompadah dee
If you are wise you will listen to me

Who do you blame when your kid is a brat
Pampered and spoiled like a Siamese cat?
Blaming the kids is a lion of shame
You know exactly who’s to blame:
The mother and the father!

Oompa Loompa doompadee dah
If you’re not spoiled then you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the Oompa Loompa doompadee do

I LOOOOOOVE that movie!! In fact, both my boys took their showers in record time so they could watch it tonight. 🙂 They’re so anxious they’re already in front of the tv just waiting. I actually like the moral lessons (ok, forget the farfetched stuff, the kids don’t get that anyway) and the fantasy (Wonkavision? coooooool!) of the whole movie. It’s a classic! Just short of being the new “Wizard of OZ” ::::::ducking tomatoes:::::::

I love Oompa Loompas! One of the local TV stations in my hometown played that every year at Thanksgiving, and my family watched it together every year. It’s one of my dad’s favorite movies, so I got it for him on VHS when it first came out, and we watched it all the time. Now he and I both have it on DVD, and all of us still watch it. 🙂

Oh man! I’ve been looking for the Oompa Loompa songs for ages! Many thanks! Now I just need to get theme in MP3 or WAV format, a couple of good pictures of the little orange people and *rubs hands in evil thoughts of Photoshop and a friend*

I like Veruca Salt(the band), Willy Wonka, The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music and… wait for it… Grease.

Willy Wonka is excellent. I love the fact that it has a moral lesson AND Gene Wilder. His hair cracks me up. Flat out ‘fro.

(Don’t tell anyone about my freakish movie obsessions please. ::giggle:: )

That’s one of my favorites, too. By the way, the grandparents all share one bed because they’re really poor… the movie just made it look like some kind of weird orgy because the bed was so huge. Personally I find all the grandparents in bed together to be way freakier than the oompa loompas.

We watched it too – my project manager was talking about this movie a few weeks ago and she said that when it came out on the big screen way back when, she dressed up as Violet (big and purple) for Halloween. No one in her neighborhood got it. LOL

I love the movie.. it rocks. And whats sad about the lyrics to that song, as I was reading through them, I knew exactly how the tone of the song went and jumped right in singing along. LOL

that movie will always be one of my favorites…i can still remember reading the books in the summertime, and when the movie brought them to life for me, i was just estatic. gene wilder was so cool! but, that ride down the chocolate river scares me to this day (of course, i’m still scared of any sort of flying monkey, thanks to the wizard of oz, too!).

Via IMDB & google search while watching last night: Peter Ostrum (who played Charlie) turned down a multi-picture deal with the studio after filming Willy Wonka, and is now a Veterinarian practicing in Glenfield, NY? Interesting story detailed here.

While in general I like the movie and the oompa loompas, I find the tunnel ride with Willy VERY creepy. I mean, he goes in there and gets all weird! However, I still love the movie, if only for the concept of an entirely chocolate world. yum! My favorite Roald Dahl book/movie will always be Matilda, though.

Oh, cripes! Now I can’t get rid of that damn Oompa Loompa song in my head! I’m sitting in my cubicle, kind of bobbing my head around in time with the music! Arrggghhhhh!!!!! (I LOVE that movie!!!!)

Yes, the first time I saw all of WW&TCF, I was a freshman in college. The Oompa Loompas gave me nightmares. I love the rest of the movie, though…

… freaky psychotic orange midgets – GAH! …

I hate that movie, and I hate the Ooompa Loompas. I know, I know, I’m in the minority — say it ain’t so! But one time when I was in seminary we were watching the movie on a bus and my friend and I turned to each other and started analyzing the movie as if we were going to write a paper on it for a class… and that was it. I’ve hated it every since. But I don’t stand in the way of anyone else loving it. 🙂

Willy Wonka is my husband’s very favorite movie. We both love it and quote from it constantly.

And, to add to my geek cred, the actual lyric is:

“…blaming the kid is a lie and a shame.”
(rather than “blaming the kids is a lion of shame.”)

I am under the impression that they are doing a remake, but IMO no one will ever be Willy but Gene Wilder.

🙂

it never really occured to me that it was strange that the grandparents were sleeping in the same bed when i was a kid. However, upon watching it recently with my four year old and was surprised by it…”What the heck, i don’t remember the grandparents sleeping in the same bed?!!” I realized that there are quite a few odd things in that movie, that never struck me as so when i was a kid. 🙂

Yo stop bregging on use because we are real and have feelings k anyways stop making it look like you lov us we know we look hot so bug off we have girlfriends

UR ALL FUCKING GAY . . . I MEAN WHO IN THE BLACK HELL LOVES A FUCKING MIDET TYPE FICTONAL CARACTER??? U ALL NEED TO GET LIVES!! I ALMOST THREW UP READING ALL THESE PATETIC LETTES OMG U GUYS SUCK!!

If everyone is “fucking gay” for being apart of this sight then why are “reading all these pathetic lettes” (I think you meant letters) and writing comments here. Who’s fucking gay now you queer!

whoa, some people get WAY too serious about stuff. ok, let’s all take a breath and get a grip. nothing wrong with indulging in a pleasant childhood (adulthood??) memory. don’t worry , “don’t worry”, there are therapists for your problem.

Oompa Loompas are the best things that ever happened to this earth!!! I talk about them 24/7 and even in my sleep. They wabble around in my dreams with the pengins I love more.

the oompa loopa is what me and my friend is called, so we memorize the songs. We also have a really tall friend (we are in middle school) whois 5 11. So we are the oompa loopas and the tall friend is willie wonka

Hi, there!
Another WWCF fan here. Would you, perhaps, have any Oompa Loompa pictures or know where I might find any? We’re having a contest at work and my team is the Oompa Loompa’s. I just want to make some kind of poster or flag for fun. (No copyright infringments here.)
If you could help, it would be greatly appreciated. “So shines a good deed in a weary world.” Thanks. . . Mark

My keyboarding class hates oompa loompas and we plan to join together and face our fearas of the “little ones”
