Set Yourself Free…

Point and Shoot

It is all about learning to let go.

A few weeks ago, we had a Flickr meetup here in Houston. I was taking what I call my “point & shoot” photos, where I aim my camera and hope I am getting the shot I want. (When there is room on the memory card, it is fun to play!) Some of the other Flickr’ers were talking about my “technique” and the free photography of it all. I just wanted to share what can happen when you let go.

Sometimes the pictures suck. Sometimes, you end up with this. In the end, it is definitely worth it.

Shot “from the hip” at the Texas Ren Fest, a few weeks after the Flickr gathering. (From the hip and my point & shoot are the same thing with different names. This one was shot from about hip height though, so … well, it fits.)

Even better large. You can even check it out larger than life.

Julia asked in my comments yesterday if I was going to put together a calendar this year. I’ve said for at least three years now that I was going to do it, and you know what? I think this is going to finally be the year. I’m thinking of doing a few calendars actually – flowers, flowers & butterflies, London, Paris, Houston, and a nature shots calendar. Probably in that order. I’ll keep you posted on the details, as soon as I figure out if I’m using Qoop, Lulu or Cafepress to make them. Anyone have experience with any of those? Care to share feedback?

Ooooh, nice hip shot! It’s kinda disconcerting ya know that you don’t even have to aim it right to get a decent shot. Is there anyplace that lets the customer pick the photos they want on the calendar by month. Is that a stupid question? I want the punkin on October. Guess I am more traditional that I like to think I am.

Let me know when you do your calendar and how you do it. I’d love to know where you did it because I wouldn’t mind doing the same for gifts for Christmas. This is a brilliant photo, btw.

We’ll be running some promos with sales on all products…greeting cards, mugs, calendars during the holidays so look for some discounts on flickr. The standard calendars are nice, but the Jumbo versions really are what you want if you have nice hi-resolution images…

Phil, that is GREAT to know! I hope they start soon, the holiday season is here! (I heard Christmas music at Hobby Lobby today. *rolling my eyes*)

I wish the site told more about the Jumbo versions of the calendars – I was curious about them and wondered what justified the higher price.
