The Plague Has Descended…

I’m sick and Mike is sick. I thought we had the same thing. I woke up early this morning and decided to go to the walk-in clinic when it opened to get checked out, since my ear felt like someone was jabbing a hot knitting needle in to it, and I had sinus congestion and drainage, along with a fever the past 2 nights. Turns out that I have sinusitis and an ear infection. I got antibiotics plus a Flonase mister thing, and I’ve been cleared and told I’m not contagious. I’m already feeling better, although I still have post-fever exhaustion. I figure that will be gone tomorrow – I always feel this way the day after having a fever.

Mike slept in part of the morning and got up and made an appointment with the same clinic. Turns out we don’t have the same thing at all, according to the doctor. He has a “raging common cold” and is contagious for another 48 hours. He got industrial strength cough syrup. Which he took 2 TABLEspoons worth of when he got home instead of 2 TEAspoons, which prompted a call to the compound pharmacy he would be a “bit drowsy” probably – which is an understatement. He has slept for the most part since 4pm! He got up to eat at 9pm, and he looks … miserable. Just miserable. So he ate, drank more water, and went off back to bed.

So we are still in quarantine mode. I absolutely can NOT get what he has – I have a wedding on Saturday and a shoot on Sunday.

I am reminded, once again, that I also can NOT eat wheat. I ate wheat on Saturday – a small amount too – and by Saturday night I was congested and sneezing and I knew it was going to go to my sinuses. Years of chronic sinusitis have been managed by keeping my allergies in check, and wheat throws it out of whack. I know this. After a year of discovering this, I need to stop proving it to myself!

I’m hoping this passes soon. I really, really do not want to deal with being sick!

11 months in, I’ve lost and kept off 25+ pounds. I’ve dropped 2-3 clothing sizes depending on the clothes. This is NOT a “diet” for me in the terms of how I normally think of a diet. A “diet” is miserable. You’re hungry all the time. You are suffering through it for the sake of losing weight, and when it is over you are NOT going to be eating that way.

This is a life change. This is my diet as in meeting my dietary needs. I eat when I’m hungry. I stop when I’m not. I am HAPPY eating like this. I won’t lie, there are moments when I’d like a donut or a piece of cake – who doesn’t feel that way? But those moments are few and far between. I never thought I was a stress eater, but now the moments I feel that way are when I’m under stress.

I’m happy. I feel better than ever. And I’m continuing on. I’ll give you an update next month when I hit the one year mark – I can’t wait!
