H-Town Snaps…

My camera batteries died last night shortly after arriving at Market Square Bar & Grill to meet up with Jish and the H-Town Bloggers, so I didn’t get many pictures last night. However, Matt has already posted his photo gallery of the evenings events – enjoy! My personal favorites are the group photo and our mirror shot. Yes, we are all crammed in to a very, very tiny men’s bathroom just so we can take that photo!

For the record, it has been said before by Jay and I’ll say it again … Everyone needs a little Jish in them. So if you should ever get an e-mail that he’s coming to town and wants to meet you – take him up on the offer. You won’t regret it.

Avoid the Label…

Spread the news – there is a new word on the street! Brought to you by Mike and the letter C:

Blurker (BLUR-kur): n. 1. One who reads many blogs but leaves no evidence of themselves such as comments behind; a silent observer of blogs. 2. One who reads many blogs but has no blog of their own; a blog-watcher or blog voyeur.

I know you’re out there. Want to shake that label off? Then leave comments! Leave them all over the place – here, there and everywhere! I read a post recently about “blog cliques” and that people don’t leave comments behind because they don’t feel part of the “group”. So here it goes … I’ll let you in on one of my big personal secrets. I have 3-4 “must-read” blogs that I hit daily no matter what. Sometimes several times a day. But after that, know what blogs I hit next? The people that have recently left comments!

So you want to increase your traffic? You want to meet new people and make new friends? Then don’t be a blurker! Come out, come out … wherever you are!

Far From Home…

Kymberlie was beyond ecstatic when her college ring was found last week. It seems she isn’t the only person who has lost a ring – it could have ended like this story where the ring turned up far from home! [via ChocolateOrange]

Lili Looms…

I have Tivo recording “The Amazing Race” right now because I had to get an update from everyone about Hurricane Lili which is now a Category 4 storm. Oh, wheee! What fun!

I think hurricanes are better than earthquakes or other natural disasters because we have a lot of advance warning about them. We’ve been watching this storm for a week and a half now. The down side to hurricanes? They are unpredictable as far as where they will hit. If you look at the map, the “strike zone” is a huge portion of the Gulf Coast.

Thankfully, I live on the Northwest side of Houston. We are far enough from the coast we normally don’t get 150mph winds – just a lot of rain. In times like this, that’s a good thing.

However, it should be noted that no one should worry about running out of Tabasco sauce. Avery Island, the home of Tabasco, is in the direct line of Lili’s fire. They have “prepared for a possible shut down of bottling operations.” They boarded things up and did all the things you do while waiting for a hurricane. “We’re bottling right now and we’re not anticipating anyone running out of Tabasco” according to the plant. Whew! Because you know, that could be quite a disaster in itself!

The wait-and-see game begins again. Ahhh, the joys of Texas life.
