Oven Mystery – SOLVED!

We tested the oven last night. It turns out that I had never noticed a problem before because if you set it to 350, it stays pretty much at 350. Most cookies and other items are backed in that range, so 350 is safe. No burnt goodies coming out of the oven.

On the other hand, if you set it for 400, you’re screwed. It climbs and climbs until it reaches great temps close to 500 degrees. It’s like the home for the Heat Miser in there. And my poor fragile spritz cookies were just no match for that kind of heat.

Last night we made a different cookie recipe – the spritz cookie that kick ass – and baked them at 375. Viola! No burnt cookies. And they taste sooooooooooo good.

Yeah! Mystery solved! I don’t have to go back to Easy Bake Oven training school after all!

Snow Flurries…

The snow flurries on my site are brought to you courtesy of Kurt’s Free Dynamic HTML and Javascripts. Now if only I could get the Dynamic Drive script or this one to work, I could have big, pretty snowflakes. Oh well, at least I have some snow!

A Better Angel…

I’ve found a better Tampon Angel instructions (thanks to Google, of course), with poems that you can print to go with the angel! Menopause Angel or PMS Angel! How thoughtful is that?

And if you need to make the Maxi Pad Slippers, you can get instructions for them here. Mad props to Skits for pointing those out!

It’s a regular themed holiday season around here!

Crunchy Cookies…

Mike & Jason made the snickerdoodles while I was out Christmas shopping, so today we decided to put our new cookie press to work and make some almond spritz cookies. Followed all of the instructions, set the oven to 400 degrees like the recipe called for, decorated them with some red and green sugar …

and then burnt the shit out of them while they baked.

I don’t think I’ve ever burnt cookies. I’m still in shock. I think the oven temp is off, and Williams-Sonoma is nuts if they think they need to cook for 10 minutes. I finally made a batch that didn’t burn by turning the oven down to 350 and only baking them for 6 minutes.

Next up? Fantasy Fudge, Peppermint Bark, and some vanilla spritz cookies. Mmmmmm…

Would anyone like some burnt Christmas trees? Anyone?
