As If the Pop-Up is Not Enough…

Get ready for advertisers to take over your Web browser. Yes, you read that right. You thought the pop-up ads weren’t enough, right? So now they will just take over your whole browser! “A New York online ad technology firm, United Virtualities, is preparing to introduce a product that will allow advertisers to automatically change the appearance of Web browsers, usurping some of the functions built into popular browsers designed by Microsoft Corp. and Netscape Communications, a unit of AOL Time Warner Inc.” Oh, that’s just lovely. Get your hands off of my browser, damn it! Hopefully someone will talk some sense into these people, because I will never support a company that runs an ad like that. For a change I actually agree with Jakob Nielsen when he says “I think it steps over the line of what’s permissible. Changing software is not permissible. The software is mine.”

that is just nuts… do they honestly believe that we are more likely to go out and by products that are forced onto us. How amny people atually pay attention to the pop up ads and actually care to purchase those products. I agree with Billy, they can have my browser, but only after when I’m longgone, and even then I think I’ll put up a fight.. what’s next, are they going to try and change the look of personal wepages?!?

stuff like that drives me nuts! did you see the story on news.com about kazaa having a switch in their software that could turn millions of their users computers into a giant p2p network? it’s all just way too big brother for me!
