Visual Treats…

There are some really awesome photos in the most recent batch of submissions over at Picture Yourself. I love them all, but 1318, 1317 and 1316 all made me do one of those gasping sounds. Funny, I’ve gone through a lot of photos there in the past year, and yet it never ceases to amaze me what people come up with.

Now it’s time to start adding some photos to Pixelog too. I’m feeling a little better tonight, so I’ve been a busy girl behind the scenes! Look out!

Public Privacy…

See that last post? It’s restricted. If you can see it, then I’ve already granted you access to restricted posts. If you can’t see it, then all you need to do is ask for access and I’ll hook you up. It’s really that easy. Tell me who you are, include a website address if you have one – and you will be allowed in unless you are one of the very few I want to keep out.

I personally think that sometimes censoring yourself online is a pretty smart thing to do. A year ago, I didn’t feel that way. When I was job hunting last December, I realized it wouldn’t take much to find my website. Just do a Google search for “Christine” and I’m there in the number 1 spot. If an employer had issues with my political beliefs, something I did in my past, or maybe negative things I said about my last job, they just might hold that against me. I know they shouldn’t – but really, we’re all humans. Even employers. In a tight job market, when they can pick and choose who they want to hire among a lot of applicants, I personally believe it’s wise to watch what you say and do online.

Another perk of restricted access posts? Search engines can’t pick up on them, and they won’t haunt me (hopefully) in the years to come.

So there you have it – be sure to request access!

Mad props to Jennifer for fixing the code I broke! Thank you, Jenn! YOU ROCK!

Even the Bartender Wore a Tiara…

In spite of my never ending headache (more about that later), I made it out last night for Tiara Happy Hour and we had a blast! The Flying Saucer was the perfect place – 200+ beers to choose from, and they could still mix a good margarita for me. (I hate beer, unless it’s in beer cheese soup. Hate it.) It was wonderful to have some one on one time with Emily, Sarah and Michelle! And Michelle’s boyfriend Jim was incredibly patient with our behavior and itsy bitsy teenie weenie penii conversations. Yes, we swapped horror stories, and that’s all I’m going to say about it. When it comes to Tiara Happy Hour – some things are left at the bar.

At one point in the evening I went up to the bartender, who was wearing our spare tiara (Jim was wearing the other one) to order a coke. While standing there, a guy asked me, “What’s with the tiaras?” I told him that it was Tiara Happy Hour, the next big thing. He said, “Oh. I thought Flash Mobs were the next big thing?” I clued him in and said, “No, Tiara Happy Hour is the next big thing… but maybe we’ll combine one with a Flash Mob and get everyone to wear tiaras!” Wouldn’t that be riot? Can you see it? Oh, the confusion we would cause!

I only drank one margarita because I figured that I should not taunt my headache. I drank one coke, and a lot of water. Hydration is a good thing, right? Well I woke up this morning feeling like complete ass. Blech. If I sat upright I felt sick to my stomach, and any time I stood up I broke out in a sweat. Jason’s been sick since Thursday with a headache and a fever. Mike has been feeling pretty much the same too – so I think it’s safe to assume we all have the same bug, along with a lot of kids at Jason’s school. Fortunately Mike was feeling a little better today, so he was my angel of mercy and brought me fake mashed potatoes and a biscuit from KFC. I don’t know what it is, but when my tummy is upset, fake mashed potatoes make it feel so much better. That and a lot of Excedrin plus 200mg of B6, and I’m at least able to form coherent sentences finally and sit upright without wanting to die. Hopefully tomorrow will be even better and I can get some photos online from the Tiara Happy Hour!

I strongly encourage everyone to try a Tiara Happy Hour. It’s ok if you’re the only blogger in your city – get your friends together, put on tiaras, and live large!

Nigerian Comment Spam…

We’ve all received one form or another of the Nigerian spam e-mail – that’s old news. Comment spam is becoming more and more frequent too – I probably delete one a week. But it amuses me to no end to receive the Nigerian e-mail message as comment spam!

On a separate note, I woke up this morning and came out here to delete the last post, or at least switch it in to draft mode. Natalie’s right, there is a part of me that hates that post. What I said is how I feel, but revealing how I feel isn’t easy. I may just have to tweak the restricted post code and use it on that one. I at least want to know who is reading it. Know what I mean?

Update: I thought about it some more. I don’t think I’ll restrict my last post, although I might restrict future posts on the topic. I grant access to pretty much everyone who asks though, as long as they tell me who they are – or they are not one of the 3-4 people I don’t want to have reading it. I realized though that if my employer was to have issues with me admitting that I might be suffering from depression or something else, then I have a bigger problem on my hands. They should be thankful that I am aware of the issues and I am doing something about it. Being proactive and working towards improving my work performance and all that…
