Too Far?

Have you heard the news? (I literally heard it from Mike who is sitting two chairs away.) It seems that the House cafeterias change names for ‘french fries’ and ‘french toast’. Call me crazy, but don’t the elected officials that are running this nation have better things to do then to change the names of food in the cafeteria?

Attention Grabber…

It’s not like Cory Doctorow (creator of Boing Boing: A Directory of Wonderful Things) doesn’t get a lot of attention already at SXSW. He is a great speaker, on several panels, in addition to working with EFF and Creative Commons.

But he definitely got attention when he walked in to Bruce Sterling’s panel and said, “I’m taking away the wireless connection if I don’t get a plug!”

When you have laptops around the room all online thanks to WiFi, that causes everyone to stop and listen. I quickly offered him mine, but fortunately he didn’t take me up on it because if he had my laptop battery would probably be dead by now.

Sharing Brainstorms…

I’m taking notes and I will be posting about the panels, the events, the conversations and so forth – but right now I’m in panels that I just don’t want to miss while writing a post. Some really thought provoking things have been thought and shared over the past few days. Matter of fact, I am currently in “Surviving your Collaborative Project” with Heather Champ of the Mirror Project and one of the co-creators of k10k. Very helpful for PictureYourself.

The Bloggies were a lot of fun – Nikolai did a great job putting on the show. I didn’t win one, but was able to accept for ScriptyGoddess, Nerdboy Mikey and GeekGrrl. I was also honored to present several awards including one with Rannie and I was able to crown Ernie queen when he won the Best Gay/Lesbian Weblog award.

I also didn’t win the SXSW Web Award that Pixelog was a finalist for – but it truly was an honor to make the finals (I seriously never thought it would happen) and I am really happy for Griff that Ultramicroscopic won!

I should also add that if you ever have a chance to attend Fray – do it. It was absolutely fantastic to be able to attend Fray Cafe last night. I have already been thinking of a story to share on the site in the future.

Having fun! Wish you were here…

Hiding Out…

I slipped out of Dave Weinberger’s presentation because the WiFi signal isn’t strong enough in the panel room, so I’m hiding out in the hallway, checking e-mail and the Helpdesk before I go back in there. Much to my surprise, I discovered that I have been implicated in a Blog Terrorist Plot! ME! Me! Can you believe it? Ironic, since my spot in the Blogrolling ranks has slipped in the past few weeks too. I am declaring my innocence. I am not a part in a terrorist plot. Don’t believe what the posters say!

On a side note, I don’t think I should post from the Omni late at night when I’m tired and have had a margarita. Just one, but I ate a light dinner and I rarely drink so one was enough. Then again, I bet it might make for amusing content the day after…

Off to learn about why the web matters and figure out how the small pieces are loosely joined!
