I sort of want to drive to Cape Disappointment, Washington this morning. Because … WTF? What is up with that name?!?

@christinebpc maybe because of this https://t.co/5zV9j6bdWd
I actually just watched a Ken Burns documentary about Lewis and Clark that said they’d finally reached the Pacific and had expected to see ships there who could replenish their food, but didn’t. They were kind of tired and pissy by that point, so they were a bit glib with the name.
I got a jacket from there gift shop. for real. ALSO, nearby, is Dismal Nitch. I had to get the t-shirt, also from the same shop I got the Cape Disappointment jacket.
Interesting, Sandy Nickerson Ervin — I read this morning that it was named before Lewis & Clark arrived by the British. Curious now!
Really? Hmm.. I’ve heard that Ken Burns’ documentaries aren’t always the most accurate…
the cape twas named by the British, but Lewis and CLark named Dismal Nitch. How great is “Dismal Nitch?” I think it trumps “Cape Dissapointment.”

Dismal Nitch is hysterical too!
putting on my nitch shirt now. Christine, get to Ecola State Park. though Nitch is funny, there is not much there to see but a marker.
Now I’m gonna refer to Ken Burns as Ken Disappointment.
I love the Oregon Coast. Been to Astoria several times with my late mom when we lived in Crescent City CA. I love the lighthouses there
