It has reached a point of pure insanity at the Texas Legislature when they are forcing women who are there for the hearings on HB2 (link to live blog on the topic) to surrender the tampons they have in their purses. Texas women are angry over this bill, and they are afraid that they will be used as projectiles to throw at the legislature.
No matter where you stand on this bill, no one should have to surrender basic feminine hygiene products. Ludicrous!
The only “down side” to my surgery and my road trip is that I’ve missed the opportunity to be there for this critical time in Texas government. If I had not been in the hospital, or if I wasn’t on the road now, I would be there in Austin. It is hard reading the news from so far away, and I really hope I have no issues with this hospital, otherwise I would be contacting experts from >https://www.the-medical-negligence-experts.co.uk/

Absolute insanity! I spend so much time explaining to my friends that most of the people I know in Texas aren’t like this, but it’s a hard sell…
I hope this brings the women vote out in droves in the next election round!
Yeah right like a tampon is going to hurt anyone – it is fricking cotton for gods sake.
I had heard it was because there were many less than rational groups who were planning to pelt people with various Kotex-type products. They even confiscated visls of urine and feces. Sick. (Once again, the crazies on any side take away from a discussion…)
Michele Price maybe if it was Texas cotton they wouldn’t have confiscated them? 😉 (Do we still grow cotton in Texas?)
Not any I would use – it’s all got too many chemicals to be worth putting next to my skin.
Pam Speer Lewis I agree – the crazies are an absolute problem, on any side. And the article I linked to in my post mentions the feces & urine, which is just NASTY.
But tampons? Even if they were thrown, they weren’t going to hurt anyone.
I read that they are also confiscating diabetic supplies.
What are they thinking are the possibilities? Death by Tampon Assault? We’ve reached a new low here. 🙁
Right, but still – THROWING things? Decorum and discussion can still coincide. I guess we can thank the nut jobs (feces and urine?!) for this one.

Yeah I do not tolerate stupid not matter what else we might agree on. But to assume a tampon in your purse will be thrown is ridiculous.
Confiscating urine and feces is not the same as confiscating tampons. Even though, yes, NONE of them should be thrown. Ugh.
I suppose they assume that only the tampon can be used as a projectile? I’m surprised they’re not taking bras and panties, as well.
That’s because some of the more militant activists posted on their FB page they were going to throw used ones at the blue shirts, discussion ensued, then they “settled” on filling maxi pads with glitter to throw. So here’s the lesson, if you plan to throw things in the Capitol, don’t discuss it openly on FB!
But I think that’s the issue – there were plans to throw them (along with other things.) So thanks to THOSE folks, this happens. Sad. Guess if you’re flowin’ that day ya better try a DivaCup?! (I just squicked myself out.)
First they came for the tampons and I didn’t speak out because I do not menstruate…http://t.co/js2FqFlfm4

When they’re also finding people with jars of urine, feces, and paint, caution is probably advisable. Tampons did get thrown in the rotunda just a little while ago, but they did continue letting women into the chamber with only a couple in their bags. When people act like animals, they should be treated like animals.
Do you mean like throwing tampons at the animals?
(I’m about to be offline – so everyone be nice here while I’m gone, ok?! Ok. We may not agree on everything, but we can all be friends and have a conversation without name calling. 🙂 )

Yeah, I’m not sure how much it gets your point across to act like a 12 year old boy.
@christinebpc Some men are just plain old stupid. Not all, but those who are sure got an extra helping. #Texas #TamponGate
I grinned at your “come and take it” graphic. Perfect for Texas.

Just tampons? Why not pens, pencils? Eyeliner? My keys are pretty hefty. If I whipped them at someone I could hurt them.
Christine, if it were only tampons they were confiscating, I would be as outraged as you, but take a look at this story. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/07/12/police-confiscate-bricks-jars-of-urine-feces-tampons-condoms-from-protesters-at-texas-capitol-as-final-vote-on-pro-life-bill-nears/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=story&utm_campaign=Share%20Buttons

Hey, but in Texas all women of child-bearing age are supposed to be pregnant so why would would you need to be packing tampons?
