Don’t be a Hog!

If I am going to go to the gym, there are some things we need to discuss. These are primarily for the benefit of the two chicky-poos that were at my gym last night. No, they will probably never read this, but it will make me feel better anyways.

Lift slowly and lower slowly means slowly within reason. 30 seconds per lift (times 15 reps, times 3 sets) is a bit insane.

Don’t hog the machines. Yes, you should rest for a minute or two inbetween sets. Get your pretty little derriere up off the machine and let someone else use it during those two minutes. Someone that can do 15 reps in under 10 minutes. Someone like me that doesn’t appreciate being slowed down while you guys have social hour sitting on the leg machines.

And for the older lady at my gym, orange is not a good color for your skin. If you’re on medication or something that causes that orange effect, I’m sorry. Wearing an orange shirt at the same time with yellow socks? Not a good idea. Ouch. Made my eyes hurt. Blue might be a good color to try.

For everyone else? Keep up the good work. Going to the gym is the first step, and the fact that you’re there is the best thing you can do. I’ve really been enjoying it, and I feel better. My shoulder doesn’t hurt as much, my sleep patterns are better, it’s an all around good thing.

But if you should ever be at my gym at the same time I am … don’t hog the machines!

Stuck in the Middle…

I am literally in the middle of a split sky. On the left, it is blue and sunny with pretty white puffy clouds. On the right, it is storming, gray clouds with thunder.

Why is it that I feel like this is some strange metaphor for my life right now? There is no reason I can pinpoint, and yet it seems so symbolic. Something is brewing, winds are changing. I’m personally hoping that the sunny side wins out in the end, but I guess you can never have sunshine without rain.

I Laughed, I Cried…

Ceci n’est pas une guerre (c’est l’amour), or This is not a war (it’s love). A silent motion picture production from Jason Kottke, which has made me realize once again that I really need to pay more attention to what is going on in the news. (It was inspired by the recent G8 Summit.)

Surgeon Specific would probably issue a monitor spray warning for this one. Keep all liquids out of your mouth while clicking the link.

Ain’t That The Truth…

H.G. Wells put it best, “Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo.”

Boy, ain’t that the truth…

Get Some Lager…

I seem to have taken on a new role as a P.R. person lately. It’s all good though, I don’t mind at all. Just spreading the news here!

Mike is in a group called the Lager Rhythms. They are an a cappella group, although they cheat sometimes and use harmonicas when they perform. (Don’t tell the a cappella police though…) Several H-Town Blogs members have seen them perform and can verify that it is a fun and entertaining event. This Saturday, for the first time in months, they will be performing again IN PUBLIC for all to enjoy!

Place: Anderson Fair (Their site has a map to their location)
Date: June 21, this Saturday.
Time: Doors open at 8, and they will probably go on stage between 8:30 and 9. You should get there early anyway, so you can get a seat, relax and eat and drink and visit and so forth. It’s not a huge venue, and last time it was standing room only for late arrivals. You get to be up close & personal, nice and cozy.
Cost: $8 at the door. Bring extra cash if you want a CD or a t-shirt, which I’m sure they will have for sale.

Anderson Fair serves both coffee and alcohol. It is not a nightclub or bar in that sense, move of a pub type feel, or a restaurant as they call themselves. It is a kid friendly enough venue that I might bring my son with me. He has seen them perform and had a blast.

AFTER THE SHOW: We will probably hang out right there at Anderson Fair for a bit while they mingle with the crowd, and then find a local spot for a late dinner or dessert. Katz’s is just down the road, and I haven’t had their fried pickles in awhile…

Hope to see you there!
