Have you heard the news? (I literally heard it from Mike who is sitting two chairs away.) It seems that the House cafeterias change names for ‘french fries’ and ‘french toast’. Call me crazy, but don’t the elected officials that are running this nation have better things to do then to change the names of food in the cafeteria?

Attention Grabber…
It’s not like Cory Doctorow (creator of Boing Boing: A Directory of Wonderful Things) doesn’t get a lot of attention already at SXSW. He is a great speaker, on several panels, in addition to working with EFF and Creative Commons.
But he definitely got attention when he walked in to Bruce Sterling’s panel and said, “I’m taking away the wireless connection if I don’t get a plug!”
When you have laptops around the room all online thanks to WiFi, that causes everyone to stop and listen. I quickly offered him mine, but fortunately he didn’t take me up on it because if he had my laptop battery would probably be dead by now.
Geeks Unite!
SXSW has arrived! We arrived in Austin and headed over to Break Bread with Brad. It was interesting – last year, I didn’t know anyone – this year, I walked in and it was like getting together with old friends. One of the many highlights of my evening? Meeting with Rannie in person!
After hanging out at Stubbs, we wandered over to another club on 6th Street, but there was a cover so no one wanted to go in. Mike, Matt, Mike and I ate at Hard Rock Cafe on 6th Street (it was right there) and now we’re at the bar at the Omni Hotel! I had to borrow Mike’s iBook so I could upgrade Rannie’s hosting account (how is that for service?) and figured I would slip a post in before I returned it.
Having a great time – wish you were here…
Isn’t That Sweet?
I had a moment of dyslexia earlier and typed in boogle.com instead of google.com. Isn’t it nice to know that Google was smart enough to register the domain and make it “google with quotes”? Now I can read a nice quote and find just what I need!
Ever Heard of Them?
Real life question asked of my by one of my attorneys today:
Him: “So, have you ever heard of blogs?”
Me: “Yes, I have. Matter of fact, my site that is up for the SXSW Web Award is one.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. We had just finished up our meeting where we reviewed the open cases we have and what needs to be done on each of them. Then he started looking around his desk for something. He pulled out a copy of the ABA Journal, which has an article in it about “Blawgs.” (Get it? B-law-gs.) It mentioned Glenn Reynolds in passing, since he is a professor, not a practicing attorney – the focus of their article.
He asked if I thought a Blawg would be a good addition to our firm website, which it could be if done right. I felt like I was slipping back in time as I launched in to sales pitch mode from my past life on how the software we would use depended on the platform our site is hosted on and so forth. Then it hit me just how far I have come in the past 2 months. It’s a world apart.
After I wrapped up my conversation with him, I returned to my office and went back to work on the Special Exceptions that I want to have drafted before I leave tomorrow afternoon. Some moments my life almost seems surreal.
