Oddly Refreshing…

I never thought I would say this, but there was something quite refreshing about getting up this morning and updating the Blogomania site at 6:30 am. Crazy, but true. Now all of the new account size information is on the site, and I’ve corrected various items such as links to the Helpdesk.

Hmmm… what other challenges can I take on today?

Blog, Blog, Blogomania…

I am home from Minnesota; have been for a few days, actually. Jason will be home in a week and a half, and I have so much to do before he returns – I simply must take advantage of the time. My number one priority? Blogomania. While client needs have not been neglected over the past few months, a lot of things behind the scenes have been. Now I’m working on putting a new internal bill tracking system in to place, and I am in that focused and driven mode. Manic, anyone? Yeah, that’s me. I had to force myself to stop and eat earlier. I love the focused mode, but when I am like that, nothing else can get in the way.

In case you were wondering, Blogomania is alive and well. The down time on my site last weekend was an oversight that was hard to catch without web access. The down time on client sites on Sunday was a bad thing, but fixed very fast. Nothing like that has ever happened in Blogomania’s past 2+ years, and it will never happen again.

Now its time to share some great Blogomania news! Earlier in the month all of the accounts were upgraded! The plan that is listed as 200 mb on the site is now 325 mb! The mini plan that didn’t have a MySQL database before now has one! We are going to offer two new hosting plans once all of the site revisions are done! Great things are in the works, and I can’t help but use too many exclamation points to share my joy!

Normally, I don’t like to talk about Blogomania too much here. You know, keeping my work and personal life separate and all that. But I know that a lot of people might have missed the announcement in the Forums, and I wanted to be sure to spread the great news.

So that is what is new here. How about you?

Amazon Plugin…

Miracle (Widescreen Edition) I decided to try out adding a plugin to my site, and damn, was that easy! (Yes, I had to distract myself from the frustration of my CSS issues. Grrr…) I added the WP Amazon plugin, and … bam! It works! Simply amazing. After being so used to fighting with tweaks and hacks, using the Plugin feature of WP is a breeze!

Now it’s time for a good, tasty filet to help celebrate the 4th of July!

Drumroll, Please…

Matt is here, and we have converted the 3500+ entry blog to WordPress! He was impressed with how fast Blogomania handled the import of all of my posts, only having a memory timeout issue towards the end.

Skins haven’t been brought back online yet. The default design needs some tweaking, including bringing in the Pixelog photos on the top. First we have to import Pixelog to WordPress too, then the rest of my blogs will fall into place.

For now, it’s time for lunch. Because the best way to get Matt’s help is to offer him a really good meal.

Just Call Me FireFoxy…

First, my confession. If you are one of those people that watches the log files to see what browsers people use, I am a diehard IE user. (If you are really a fanatic about watching things like that, you probably knew that already.) People have tried to convince me to switch, but I have just never given in. Sites don’t always look pretty on Firefox. I used tabbed browsing back in 1996 with Opera, and just prefer IE. I’m used to having 10+ browser windows open at one time, and with tabs I tend to close the main window instead of just a tab. The list just goes on and on.

Tonight, while surfing along, I came across Scott Andrew’s tech site, Delimiter, thanks to Ernie. I decided to go to Scott’s main page to check things out and maybe listen to some of his music. (Good stuff there, if you ask me.) However, there is a nice little warning that I should stop using IE on the top of the page. “Hey! If you’re using Internet Explorer, you’re exposing yourself to viruses that can steal your personal information, banking passwords and more.” Then a link leads me to his tales of woe and cybertheft, giving me a good solid reason to leave IE behind. Yeah, I had heard it all before, but this finally sank in. Internet Explorer is Dangerous.

He links to many sources that convince me even more. I have downloaded FireFox, and as soon as I close out my 17 browser windows, I’ll go back and read the Introduction to Firefox tutorial.

Today Firefox (and probably Thunderbird too), tomorrow WordPress. What’s next? My head is almost spinning from all the possibilities!

UPDATE: Yeah, I’ve been holding out because I’m not a huge fan of tab browsing. Brilliant. When you right click, you can choose “Open in New Window” in Firefox. You can even make that a permanent setting. Doh!
