What You Lookin’ At?

Last week Jeff, the network guru at work, and I were looking at the results of the virus scan on my machine. I commented that I often set Outlook to just list the e-mail without the preview screen and delete all of the spam at once. I had a lot of viruses that weren’t quarantined because they weren’t activated – they were just deleted. I said that I bet it was the spam, and he agreed. Then reading something like “Is your e-mail watching you?” causes concern. Makes me want to delete every single cookie on my machine, in spite of the inconvenience it will cause me – I am tired of being watched. Aren’t you? [via Glossy Blog]

Hackertime!

Microsoft Releases Patch to Fix Web Server Holes: “Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday announced a security patch that fixes more than a dozen holes in its Web server software, including several critical ones that could allow a hacker to take complete control over machines running the popular software.” Can I just add in, once again, that I love Unix and Linux? Get Out!

Still trying to catch up on reading blogs, I discover that there was a call made to Dori’s publisher by Warner Brothers. They want to feature her new Java 2 book on an episode of The Sopranos. Get out! No way! Now that would be way too cool. At the same time it leaves me curious – how would they write in a Java book to a Sopranos story line? Are they using some wild code to hack the web? Hmmm… Well, I hope it happens for Dori. That would be wonderful!

More Blog Press…

Is it just me, or does it seem like recently the uber cool thing for the press to cover in the tech world is blogs? Not that I’m complaining (note Blogomania) I just think it’s pretty funny. The latest is Fast Company with All the News That’s Fit to Blog. Do you think all of this blog press coverage could have to do with the fact that the tech industry is still in a bit of a slump and there are so many unemployed designers out there who are happily blogging away in their abundent spare time?
