Moving Things I Saw Today…

Various links of things I read today that touched me in some way.

:: CBC News – 1 Year Later. [via Mike]
:: Cantor Families Memorial. Memorial pages for all of the employees lost, and memories left behind by families and friends.
:: A Small Victory – No Ordinary Day. Michele gave us a place to share our stories and memories, and I truly appreciate it.
:: Dichotomy – A Matter of Time and Place. A collection of more stories about 9/11.
:: Anniversary – When I read Chris’s post about her day in New York, 8 blocks from the World Trade Center, I cried. I couldn’t help it. Sometimes tears are a good thing.
:: Rannie’s post also had a similar effect on me. I can’t help but stare at that photo of the WTC. It’s like a mirage… He also has links to many more sites then I have here.
:: Holy Fucking Shit Day – That is what I prefer to call 9/11. Forget about “Patriot Day”, Holy Fucking Shit Day is just more appropriate. I know those are the words I said as I watched the news that morning.

I went to bed last night feeling very sentimental and sad in a way. I woke up this morning and the sky was the same crisp blue I remember from last year on this day. I realized it was just that … a new day. I am alive, and I want to enjoy that. I wanted to tell everyone I know that I love them. Really, I do. Even you. Yes, you there, sitting in your chair reading this. You have more than likely touched my life in some way at some point in time, even if it was something as simple as a comment to say hello. I’m glad that our paths have crossed. It may sound trite or contrived, and I really don’t mean that. I am very sincere in saying that I have met wonderful people and made great friends in this past year – and today I celebrated that. Thank you.

Pow! Right to the Moon!

The first commercial moon mission has been approved. Among the reasons why they are going? “To verify Apollo and other landing sites.” Some people believe the Apollo program was a hoax. I mean, it’s not like our government has never lied to us, you know. The mission is expected to launch within the next 9 to 12 months, and I’m sure the images they bring back from the trip will be amazing!

Future plans for the TransOrbital? “The creation of a network of navigation beacons on the moon to help future lunar explorers and possibly ultra-secure data storage facilities.” Yes, I would think that the moon would be a pretty secure place to store data. Wouldn’t it be hard to retrieve it if you needed to do a backup though? [via Malibu List]

Hell Has Frozen Over…

Texans stun Cowboys to win. 19-10. They didn’t just stun the Cowboys, they stunned me too! (I still hate Houston though. That hasn’t changed.)

Still Dry…

Fortunately, the wrath of Fay was minor compared to the onslaught of Allison last year. We’ve had a lot of wind and rain, but nothing too bad. No flooding on this side of town, so moving the car wasn’t really necessary at all. Better safe then sorry though, right?

I’m still waiting for your suggestions as to what you would like for me to post about over in the Big Blogger game – where I am now becoming the nice girl next door that half of the fans want to kick in the shins for being boring! YOU can dictate what I post! Tell me what to do, what to say, what to post. Photo requests, whatever. You name it, I’m there! Leave your suggestions in the comments!

Fay, Fay, Go Away…

Southeast Texas braces for Fay, hopes she’s not Allison’s sister

My Dad just called & asked if I wanted to bring my car over to their house and park it in the driveway there. Why would I want to do that? Because it’s raining 4″ an hour down in Galveston right now. Tropical Storm Fay is gathering up speed, churning things up just south of here. The rain right now is pretty light on the Northwest side of town (I’m about an hour and a half from Galveston) but I learned my lesson last summer.

Tropical Storm Allison was kind enough (ha!) to dump 23″ of rain in under 24 hours. My car was flooded. Not too bad – but it took over a month to have it repaired because everyone else was flooded too.

Fay is stationary right now. This is not a good thing. Storms feed off of the water – that’s where they get their speed and power from. This could become a hurricane before it’s all over. I just want it to hurry up and move on through!
