The Final Centerpieces…

These are the centerpieces for the Knit at Night Guild conference this weekend. The banquet is tomorrow night, in honor of the guild’s 10 year anniversary. It is one of the largest knitting guilds in the nation – how cool is that? And as an added perk, most of the yarn shops in Houston give a discount to the members. Totally worth a membership!

I was in charge of coordinating the centerpieces, but I did not knit all of those flowers! Several members of the Knitters North of Town (KNOT) chapter made them – I just organized it with the help of the chapter president. In an ironic twist, I’m actually not going to the banquet myself.

iKnit…

The new podcast is LIVE! Go tell all of your friends, blog about it, shout it from the rooftops! I’m afraid people think I’m never coming back, so whatever you can do to get the word out – I would really appreciate it! (Now Caro, who I will talk about more in Episode 8, won’t have to put me on notice. Whew!)

Oh! I finally got to use the cool “play from the website” plugin for WordPress too – let me know what you think!

Wildseed Farms…

In looking up details on the Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) that I posted earlier today, I discovered Wildseed Farms. It is over in Fredericksburg, one of the places on my “things I want to see in Texas” list. (Yes, I have never been – crazy, huh?) Going to Wildseed Farms would be like a dream come true for me, walking among the fields of flowers and learn how they take care of them, although I been reading a lot about gardening at thegardeninghub.com to learn how to do it myself. Just think of all the flower photographs I could get! And there is a live Butterfly Haus! Plus a display garden and walking trails! Not to mention that the whole area gets taken care of thanks to the Tree Removal – Precision Tree Services company which is one of the best ones.

It makes me swoon a little just thinking about it.

(In case you wondered, I replaced the previous coneflower photo with a color-corrected version. I didn’t have time to tweak it this morning.)

Pointy Update…

Guess what? I’m wrapping up the show notes for the next Pointy Sticks episode. I’m going to see the Gee’s Bend exhibit tomorrow with my Mom, my Mom’s quilting group, and Katy Blogless. (The group had tickets, two were left over, and I nabbed them for myself and Katy Blogless so we could go too. They thought it was odd that knitters would want to go see quilts. They just don’t know about the whole Mason-Dixon Knitting thing.) I hope to record when I get home, and have it all polished and live by the weekend. Whee!

Oh! While I am updating – Jason made it through the first day of high school. He seems to like it, although if you ask him if he likes it he won’t admit it. It is school, so he feels the need to grumble about it. He has good things to say about his teachers so far, so hopefully we will start the year off on a good note. I’m glad to see him excited about things.

High school. I still can’t believe it.

Because Everyone Can Use Some Organization…

I am back in Houston. I need to go through my Harlot photos and then my Arkansas photos so I can post them. The time will come soon. First I need to make sure that Jason is ready to START HIGH SCHOOL (someone hold me while I cry a little) on Monday. We’ve shopped for clothes, he has new tennis shoes, and he goes to “Cougar Camp” on Friday morning for a bit of orientation from the student council. I still can’t believe it is time for him to start HIGH SCHOOL. Wow.

Then I only have two weeks left before I start classes myself. I have a lot that I want to get done in those two weeks, which means it isn’t likely to happen. But I’ll do what I can in that amount of time. This semester will be a lighter load for me in that I won’t have as many classes, and only one of them involves a lab. The classes will probably be harder though, so I’m trying not to take on too much. This semester it will be Organic Chemistry, Trigonometry, and a Psych class for people majoring in health sciences. (The last one is required for my scholarship.)

I am also finishing up (finally!) my notes for the next Pointy Sticks podcast. Mike’s vacation ends today, so I hope to record while he is at work tomorrow. I know, shocking, isn’t it?

Once I get done with my home organization projects, I want to set up my crafty inventory in CraftMemo. It looks really cool, plus it is free. Can’t beat free. Check it out! [via Mac.]
