Manual for Becoming a Rock Groupie…

Step 1. Determine if The Complex Tour by The Blue Man Group is coming to your town.
Step 2. Buy tickets. NOW.
Step 3. Prepare to do “the basic head-bob,” “the one-armed fist pump,” and “the up and down jumping motion.” Often.

The Complex Tour is billed on their site as “a rock show that will allow Blue Man Group to push the boundaries of the rock concert experience.” It is so true. I’ve never been to one of their other shows, so I can’t compare it to those – but I thought that the show tonight was absolutely fantastic. The lights, the show, the music, the videos, it was amazingly choreographed and the music was great! Unusual for Blue Man Group, they performed songs with lyrics. Interesting lyrics, with songs that make you think about being behind “the cultural mask”. It is an interesting theme to consider, since they are painted blue, after all.

Overall, I give the show two thumbs up, and I highly recommend it.

I am glad that they included Exhibit 13 in the show, along with the video. If you’ve never watched it – take a moment and do it. It was as moving for me tonight, being performed live, as it was the first time I saw it online a year or so ago.

We were worried for awhile as it was lightening and thundering over us at the Pavilion, where we were in uncovered seats. Fortunately the clouds went away – but the heat stayed. The Blue Man Group looked more like the Blue Man Goop by the end of the show! But that didn’t stop it from being completely amazing.

Another good song is “The Current” where they tried to capture “the modern paradox of having access to millions of people through electrical current but still being cut off from any real human contact. It’s also about getting stuck in a pattern, becoming a slave to one’s job or perhaps more specifically, a slave to technology. Musically, we wanted to express the kind of quiet rage that can build up over time when people feel trapped, alone and unable to control their own destiny.” It did that perfectly, and the green outline affect on the Blue Men made it even more symbolic.

Thank you to Kathy, Tom, Kenny & Elaine for inviting us – it was the perfect ending to the weekend!

By the way, the words on the left are all that really matter…

Blue Man!

It’s been a quiet weekend. I’ve needed some “down time” after the past several weeks of running around. Last night we had a BBQ at Jason’s school, and then ran some errands afterwards. Originally, I had an agenda full of housework for today. But Kathy just called, and her sister can’t use her tickets for tonight’s Blue Man Group show – so Mike & I are going instead! Along with Kenny & Elaine. It should be a great show – I’ve heard nothing but good things about Blue Man Group, so I can’t wait!

Must See TV…

For those of you that don’t have Bravo, and are therefore missing “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” – I just caught a commercial on NBC that they will be airing one of my favorite episodes so far, the wedding proposal guy, on Thursday night at 9pm CST. Also, they will be on Leno on Thursday night making Jay over. Now you know that is going to be amusing!

I also saw a commercial for the upcoming season of Friends. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve never really wanted Rachel to get together with Joey. I’m still hoping that in the end she will end up with Ross. I hope they have toned Monica down some this season – the wedding season and the one after that she was super annoying at times. It will be interesting to see how it all ends.

Now I Remember…

“Well Jerry, I’m here today to tell my husband that I’m sleeping with my sister.”

The husband has a hot and sexy mullet.

The sister just came out and she is a midget.

She’s married too, and she wants to stay with her husband. She can’t be with her sister any more.

And throughout all of this they are having a food fight.

Gee, now I remember why I never watch Jerry Springer. Could it possibly get any freakier then this?

All About the Fab Five…

I have been enjoying “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”. Chelsey even called me on Thursday and said, “I hate it when you’re right. I absolutely love that show.” So I couldn’t help but laugh when I came across the Fab Five Fuckability. Just in case you ever need it… [via Mena.]
