Did you watch Little House on the Prairie? I did. I wanted to be just like Mary, but when my best friend & I played “Little House” (stop laughing!) she always made me be Laura because I was younger. I didn’t think this was very fair, since I was blonde after all and so was Mary, but at least she didn’t make me play Nellie. Nellie was mean. So it’s sort of fitting that her website is named Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, don’t you think? [via My Blue House, whose 2 year blogiversary is today!]
Not only did we play “Little House on the Prairie” and have bonnets to wear when we played, I have actually been to many of the Little House on the Prairie sites. DeSmit, South Dakota (my parents bought me a cool bonnet there that converted in to an apron); the location of the sod house in Minnesota; the place where her dog was buried by the house in Minnesota; the town where they lived in Iowa (book 3?). One year on our annual vacation my Mom & Dad made it a point to hit these spots for me, and we had a great time. How is that for cool parents? Also, this past summer coming back from Winona, MN up to the twin cities I noticed that we were on the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Highway, and we were right beside Lake Pepin – so the Little House in the Big Woods would have been right over on the other side in Wisconsin. Yes, I was a big “Little House” fan.
