Gig ‘Em, Aggies!

Unlike some people I know, I don’t normally pay a lot of attention to college football – but Thanksgiving just wouldn’t be complete without a little Aggie football! (Does it count if I’m really watching the game because I want to see the Aggie Band?) Gig’em, Aggies! Beat The Hell Outta t.u.!

Gig’ Em, Aggies!

I just have to say that some days I am so proud to say that I am an Aggie. I know they have really goofy traditions – and I loved them all when I went to A&M. They just showed a clip on the news about what they did back at A&M for the first home game after the September 11th tragedy. See, us Aggies, we STAND through the ENTIRE football game. (I said the traditions were goofy, didn’t I?) You stand to symbolize that you would be ready to go down on the field and play if they needed you. You are there to support the team, as any good Ag would. So for the first home game on September 22, 2001, 5 students organized a “Red, White and Blue Out”. Instead of Kyle Field being full of Maroon as it normally is, they made 40,000 t-shirts that said “Standing for America”. They ran out of shirts the Thursday before the game, and some “old Ags” from Dallas drove down more shirts and they ran the press the night before the game. They sold every shirt. They are still making shirts and the bookstore at A&M gave them $10,000 from the shirts that they have sold. The Bay Area Aggies are sending the 5 students to NYC to deliver the donation of the money raised in person.

They showed photos of Kyle Field on the news – Red on the top level, White in the middle, and Blue on the ground level … and I am all choked up with tears in my eyes. What a sight. The Aggie band out on the field, forming “USA” as they march… yes, there are some days where I am very proud to say that I am an Aggie. Whoop!

Some may boast of prowess bold, Of the school they think so grand, But there’s a spirit can ne’er be told … It’s the spirit of Aggieland! We are the Aggies — the Aggies are we. True to each other as Aggies can be. We’ve got to FIGHT boys, We’ve got to FIGHT! We’ve got to fight for Maroon and White. After they’ve boosted all the rest, they will come and join the best. For we are the Aggies — the Aggies are we, We’re from Texas A.M.C.

PS – the “khaki” area on the 1st deck is the Aggie Band. Just in case you were wondering why there was a large area that wasn’t blue. Except you can see their dates sitting in there in blue. (I loved going to the games with band members, those were the best seats!)

Those are awesome shots of Kyle Field — that’s incredible! (My cousin graduated from A&M in ’94 btw, and the ’93 season he was the cadet that led the team on the field. I sent him an 8×10 of the OU vs. A&M score for Christmas that year.) 😉 I hope you guys beat the hell outta texas in November. Orange…bleh… You guys have the *right* colors!

My son was at A&M during that and was very proud to be wearing our collors. He has a series of pictures of Kyle Field hanging in his office. I would love to be able to give him a picture of Kyle Field with all the red, white and blue. Do you have any idea where I can find one? It would really mean alot to him.
Thanks,
Linda
