Sprint Sucks!

Mike & I were discussing today how much we hate Sprint (mainly because there is no signal at my house), and that we would like to switch to Cingular. Looking at phones, our main choices were the Ericsson T616 or the Nokia 3600. The Nokia takes slightly better photos and allows you to expand the memory with a memory card, but it is big, bulky, and has the funky round dial. Oh, and it costs $150 more. The Ericsson has a “joystick” nub thing that I found hard to use at first, and the number keys are a little smaller, but it’s $150 less then the Nokia. Feedback on either phone? Anyone have moblog photos from the Ericsson that I can check out?

(Yeah, I’m all about the feedback tonight. It could be worse – I could be complaining again about swollen glands and my sore throat again…)

I’ve got the Nokia 3650 (the one with the funky round dial) and I’ve been pretty satisfied with it. The 3650 is the tri-band 3600–you can use it on some international networks.

Amazon.com currently offers two mail in rebates for the 3650 when you get it with T-Mobile, which comes out to -50.01 (yeah, you make $50 ;-)). I bought both my 3650’s online through amazon. Chose standard shipping on the last one, but it got here in 2 days (might not now with X-mas).

You can get the 3650 with AT&T as well–I wouldn’t recommend it. The last 3650 I purchased was to replace my girlfriends AT&T phone because she got horrible reception (as does her roommates). She travels a bit more than I do (all the way to the SE side of Houston for work), and has had no problems with reception either.

I use T-Mobile and I’ve had zero problems with reception in Houston at all (I live in Sugar Land). Their rates are pretty competitive, you might want to give them a try. From the cingular site, it looks like they want a two year contract out of you as well–T-Mobiles are one year deals.

If you get the 3650 from amazon, spend the extra $10 for the Nokia branded car charger while you’re at it 🙂

The 3650 does look huge compared to other phones, but I carry it around in my pocket all the time with no problem. I had a body glove case for it which increased the bulk tremendously (don’t buy the body glove case, its uglier on the phone than it is in the box). I’ve since stopped using the case because it blocks the camera hole just a wee bit sometimes, and T-Mobile just started offering phone insurance ;-).

The default memory card (16MB) will hold something like 50 photos (higher quality setting). The only pain is transferring them to your computer. You can e-mail them from the phone to yourself but the GSM is kinda slow (compared to say, e-mailing on broadband) and it becomes a pain in the ass after abotu two photos. A bluetooth adapter would come in handy.

I don’t find the round keypad to be too distracting, you get used to it after a while. I don’t know anything about the Ericcson or not, but the 3650 also has a Media Player built in to it (never used it), and you can record movies with it as well.

Link to the T-Mobile 3650 (not an affiliate link, a direct amazon link): http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009J5VV/qid=1071495914//ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i10_xgl180/103-7335978-8841418?v=glance&s=wireless&n=507846

yeah, ditto on sprint sucking… but now that we can move our numbers around, i might switch carriers… however, i do get a signal in my house… i might switch, i might not because i have a whole lot of friends on Sprint and i know they’re not moving and i want to be able to use PCS-to-PCS with them. we’ll be getting the family plan once we save enough money to get Tom a new phone. he’s got the Sony Erickson (don’t know the model but it has the green face plate) and he hates it. i’m always talking to dead air when he calls and i end up calling him back… and sometimes that doesn’t work.

I don’t have any personal experience with those particular phones, but based on my previous experience with a different nokia phone and the phones I’ve seen lately, I would say that nokia makes the best quality phones on the market. Unfortunately, when I got my new cell phone, I wanted a flip phone, and nokia doesn’t make those 🙁 I wish I could use Cingular too, but they don’t work in my area.

Cingular is owned by Bellsouth, which is enough to make me hate them. We had a few months there where we had to call them Every. Single. Month. because they had screwed up our bill. Over and over, the same screwups that we had to get them to fix everytime. We’re switching to T-Mobile after the holidays. Thank the telephone gods for number portability.

do not do not do not do not do not do not do not get the T616. The reception on the 3620/3650 is infinitely better. Even in NYC, where the coverage for T-Mobile is generally good, there’s a world of difference in reception between the two phones (yes I know the T610 is actually the phone that’s out for TM, but it’s the same phone with slightly different software).

I had a Sprint phone for one year. I got it so we could make long distance calls to friends and family. It wouldn’t work in our house. We live on a large mass of water. 🙂 So, I switched to Alltel and I can call anyone, anytime, anywhere for a ridiculously cheap amount each month. I have so many minutes leftover each month, I wish I had gone with the rollover plan that Cingular has! Maybe when we move. 😉

i have the ericsson t616 and i love it. i went with it over the nokia phone for a lot of the same reasons you list (big, bulky, the dial, and it just generally felt cheap).

the photo quality is decent in bright light, but sucks in low light. if you want to shell out a few more bucks, you can buy an add-on flash for the phone.

you can see some (small) photos from the phone on my moblog.

Hey! I worked at Cingular and you shouldn’t go with them. They are horrible and they will screw your bill up EVERY month. Go with AT&T Wireless they are the best!

W00T!

PS! Your ads at the bottom of this form are for Cingular!!!

sprint sucks they sell you a phone and plan and do not tell you all the extras until you receive the bill. My voicemall hasn’t worked since the day I purchased the Hitahi P300 and their customer service people are arrogant and plain stupid. I spent an entire day going to sprint stores trying to get them to reprogram my phone and they keep telling me that don’t have a cable to do this,, what BS. They plain suck. I feel like taking the phone and their contract and shoving up their a**

The SE T616 is fine but a bit dainty and scratches very easily. Definitely buy a case and be sure to lock the keys to prevent unintentional calls. Biggest drawbacks to me – no speaker phone and no voice dialing. DON’T go to Cingular whatever you do. God help you if you have a problem – AND YOU WILL!!!

DO NOT go to Cingular. We have no reception at our residfence and they advised to go up the street where there is a better signal to make our calls! They will not let you out of the contract unless you want to pay the fee. A fee for No service in your residence?

Whatever you do, do not purchase a phone or service through Cingular. if you think your service sucks now, just give them a shot. They will fuck up everything that possibly can be fucked up, and then blame it all on you. Your mailing address is wrong? Well, that’s your fault for not double checking our files for us. Oh, and by the way you still have to pay the late fees on your bill because of our crumby employees. Trust me, don’t go with cingular. I have one of their phones already, and i am just waiting for my contract to expire so i can switch to somebody else.Their customer service sucks, their phone warranties are a joke b/c they swith insurance carriers constantly, and the reception on their phones suck.

Sprint sucks they alls have high prices and they have hidden charges on all there bills so make sure that if you know a sprint phone you get the bill in detail

I just got the Nokia 3600 for my toy shop. I used to have the business phone service through Sprint… yeah, they suck. Ripped me off quite a wee bit. I switched to Cingular, have way better reception, bluetooth, GPRS, plus a cool phone to take spy photos at toy shows.

Jason

cingular will have the same issues as any other cell phone company. if you want to know how cell phones work go to http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/cell-phone.htm if you can’t see a cell phone tower then you will have a bad signal, that’s just how it is, the best provider is actually verizon, if you look at their coverage it is everywhere – they are like the plague, but hey they are everywhere.

I won’t have issues with Cingular like I had issues with Sprint, they won’t sign me up without my permission, nor will they charge me as much.

The technology might be all the same, but the quality of business is what’s different.

Jason

well, if you dont like sprint, then cingular is going to be a waste of time. if you dont get any reception at your house with sprint, cingular will more than likely be the same way. their coverage is limited to highly traveled areas and interstates. if you want the best coverage you can get, go with verizon…their plans are a little higher to start, but its definitely worth it for the coverage you receive

I live between chicago and indy, I-65 has tons of cell towers, but my cingular connects not only to the “main drag” towers, but also the local towers… I think Centenial Wireless is the stuff my Cingular is getting signal from right now, and they even allow GPRS on roam. My plan is $40 something a month, and no roaming fees (not even hidden roaming GPRS stuff, it’s all the same on my plan)

I’ve heard good things about Verizon too though. Not sure if anyone I know has it.

Jason

I was told by Verison that my Sprint PCS phones (digital cell phone) was unable to be “programmed” and I had to buy new phones. Is this true, or just a ploy to sell phones?

TIA

JP, that is true. Very rarely can you take phones from one carrier to the other. I’m not sure what technology Verizon is using right now (probably CDMA), but whatever it is won’t be compatible with Sprint’s PCS technology.

I erased your comments because you are a TROLL who seems to be quite illiterate on top of it. Had you been able to leave a comment with your opinions about the topic (my problems with no Sprint access either at my home or at work, which my fiance must have for his job) that would have been one thing. However, since you could not leave a single comment without profanity and calling me names, I deleted them.

Instead of leaving inane comments on my website, you might take some time to learn more about the First Amendment and what it does and does not allow you to do. It does NOT allow you to come to MY website and be rude to me. You are entitled to your opinions, just not here…

well i used to work for sprint then switched to working for cingular, not only does cingular treat their employees better but they pay better too =) and thats a sign of a good company.

i just read another post, let me clear this up. CINGULAR – AS OF THE END OF NEXT MONTH – BLOWWWWWS PAST VERIZON IN COVERAGE. This is mainly due to the fact that they are sucking up at&t for a cool 41 billion dollars =).

SPRINTS SUCKS THEY HAVE SERVICE PLANS THEN THEY 110 PLAN THAT U CAN HAVE TWO PHONES . THEN THEY TURN AROUND CHARGE U FOR MINUTES ON THOSE PHONES ‘ FOR EXAMLPE U SE ONE OF THOSE PHONE LIKE 20 MINUTES U GET CHERGE FOR 40 MINUTES THE PLANS I S FOR 110 ONLEY THEY CHARGE U 15 DALLLORS MORE THE OTHER PHONE PLUS THE ONE U HAD TWO PHONES DOUBLE FUCK SO NO MATTER WHAT PHONE U HAVE ON THE TWO PHONE THEY GOING DOUBLE CHARGE U ON MINUTES . I recently started getting local phone service in Feb. 2004 from EXCEL Telecomunications and they are awesome! They gave me more calling features, better service, and lower prices then Sprint!!!

I recomend EXCEL to all Sprint haters!!! Visit this site to get service from EXCEL!

you guys….if you have sprint watch your minutes extremely close…and also when you sign up for night minutes at 7 instead of 9…watch out….they will not follow thru with it…they also do not add certain things such as plans over $100 are free pcs to pcs…again they did not add it…i have also lost minutes in excess of 250+ minutes and when i call to question them on it…the minutes magically reappear…is this just ironic or a scam…and why should i have to do there work for them????…please be cautious when using sprint

Amen to all who voiced their dissatisfaction with Cingular. I inherited one of their cell phones and bought another for my girlfriend so we could make Night/Weekend calls. I thought we were on the Family Plan. Turns out they thought we weren’t.

So now my girlfriend has 5000 minutes of unused time, and I’ve got 1000 minutes all used up and 1700 or so over. They’re nailing me for just under a grand in cell phone calls.

Everyone I’ve talked to is deeply disinterested. The fact that, combined, our two cell phones have enough minutes to cover the minutes used, is of no interest to them. They’re clearly just after the money, and customer satisfaction is irrelevant to them.

I will probably end up paying some or all of the fees because my credit history is more important to me than venting my spleen against some two-bit mobile carrier. But the moment my finances permit it, I fully intend to break my contract with Cingular and pay them whatever kiss-off they want. Sprint offers free N/W minutes between relevant cell phones. Cingular won’t even let me share my girlfriend’s minutes unless I buy another cell phone.

Meanwhile, I’m connected to high speed internet for the much cheaper sum of $40/month and I’ve realized that for routine daily calls to my girlfriend, it’s much cheaper and flexible to go online and chat with her. Look! A web cam, mike setup, and text messaging, all for free, AND I don’t have to wait until after 9pm to use it!

Truly remarkable.

Sprint Sucks, Sprint Sucks, Sprint Sucks..Anyone visiting this site that is considering switching to Sprint, they suck. Pooooooorrrr customer service, loooonnngg wait times, stupid people, basically Sprint just sucks.

Hello my name is Ray Rodriguez and i am a Sales Associate with Radioshack and deal with Sprint PCS daily. I recently went to your website and read what you had to say about Sprint. In my opinion reading what was said about Sprint, and the pain suffered over $14.99 must have been tragic. Its hard to see a college student going to a well rounded mature high quality college “University of Autsin” suffer so much over $14 dollars and .99 cents. You must have grew up in a not so weathly family to have an impact towards yourself to have such a hate for Sprint. I mean take a look at your website, the anger over $14.99. Now if you step back outside the box, MAYBE you’ll be able to see that NO company is perfect and never will be. How would you feel if you tried to help someone by giving them something they will need, then your write it all down on paper, stating laws in a form of a contract. The contract states “Do’s and Don’ts” unlimited and limited, what this cost and how to get out, have everything this person needs to know for you to help them out. Then that same person comes back to you complaining about how they did THIS and how THIS happend and how they didnt know that doing THIS will cause THIS and so on. So you try and help the person with the LIMITS that you have cause of the contract that was SIGNED that state the limits available. Still that person doesnt understand, and you thought that helping this person out would be nice and appreciative, cause of the contract signed, giving you the knowledge that the person knew what they were getting in to. But that person still refuses to understand and developes a hate towards you and expresses this to a wide variety of people. What im trying to focus on is that you knew what you were getting into even though you thought you didn’t. Laws are made to set limits. Business and Company wise, limits are made to give options. Refusing to understand those limits and options is that persons ignorance and lack of maturity. I deal with Sprint everyday at work, i know the limits and before i joined sprint service i understood those limits cause it dealt with my money. If you cant see past that or have the maturity to understand it, that is your own ignorance towards your future. 5 years from now $14.99 will mean nothing, so why waste time now whining about it.

Sincerely,

Ray Rodriguez

I’ve had a sprint phone for about 5 years now and i’ve rarely had problems with them. I have no idea why all these people are complaining about service that is most likely as bad as the next wireless provider. I guess what i’m trying to say is that all wireless companies have pros and cons.

so. Sprint PCS sucks. i had to buy a cell phone to come away to school and i asked the clerk at the store if my phone would work in Fredonia NY. he assured me it would get full service. well, the only way my phone works is if im in open space outside. well, not too enjoyable in the winter when i wanted to make a call. they always over bill me and i have to call in almost every month to change it. to sign on the website is inconvenient. they always tell me my password is wrong, so wheni have them text it to me its the same password i was using so when i type it in, as the text shows it, its still wrong. sprint sucks and i have a contract till aug. 2005. help shut down sprint. its horrible.

I don’t see why all of you complain about coverage. All of the coverage will vary from area to area. So when you are saying for example, “SPRINT SUCKS BECAUSE I CAN’T GET SERVICE IN MY TOWN! NEVER GET IT!” That doesn’t really make since, because somewhere else the service might be perfect.

Hello, I am a Sprint PCS Data Support Technician. All we do is try to help you. People complain about a 5 dollar charge… Look…no billing system is perfect, but you guys wanna know something? The ONLY reason CINGULAR has “ROLLOVER MINUTES” is because they had to make their system that way after they screwed it up when setting it up the first time. I can’t remember the details, but I will post them when I find out again. I think that’s pretty funny. It would be like another cell company coming out and saying “WE CHARGE YOU 5 DOLLARS EXTRA PER MONTH FOR NO APPARENT REASON, AND THEN WE CREDIT THAT BACK TO YOUR ACCOUNT! BUY OUR PHONES!”

I would just like to add that Cingular scams people with their shady billing practices. I asked someone from a dealership (with a big-ass Cingular sign above it) to change my plan to a higher minute plan and he took down my info and said he’d take care of it. Come to find out, he didn’t do it and my bill amounted to about $500.00 because of the over-airtime charges. I called Customer Service and even went as far as writing THREE complaint letters (first one was to complaints, then another to customer service, and then they referred me to the “Office of the President (OOP)” which coincidentally carried the same address as the other two). They use this completely unethical “multi-tiered” system where they first offered me a $50 credit (now, what good does that do for me if I still have $450 to pay?), then a $100 credit, and then eventually a 50% off the bill credit. All I wanted was for my plan to be changed correctly and my bill adjusted accordingly. The woman at the “OOP” told me their “maximum offer” was 50% credit. Regardless of the fact that I had the name and location of the employee who flubbed up, not to the mention the exact date. He apparently no longer works there (gee, I wonder why?) and Cingular says because he doesn’t work there anymore, too bad for me! Plus, did you know they are “not responsible for what dealers do,” even though the dealers are f-ing representing CINGULAR themselves? So anyway I rejected all three offers and am currently in the middle of a major battle with Cingular to just get my bill fixed (by the way, in the process, they turned off my phone without my permission to cancel my service, they STILL didn’t change my plan correctly until just recently and so I was charged ANOTHER month incorrectly, and now am stuck with over a thousand dollars for my balance). This is only one of MANY negative experiences I’ve had, and I just want to share to anybody who reads this, DO NOT GET CINGULAR, THEY SUCK!!!! They just want your $ and couldn’t care less about what’s right or wrong. And they never do what you ask them to do. Unless you check up on them 2-3 times. I was actually told by a rep that I should “make a follow-up call after requesting a change in my service plan, just to make sure” so that it was my fault I didn’t “follow-up.” This speaks volumes about their customer representatives’ competence, I guess we can safely assume they are morons.

I work for Sprint as a customer care advocate for 2 yrs. now I have not received a raise because of what they call average handle time which they expect to be 6:30 minutes or less. My AHT is over that because I honestly try to help the customer .. I do not hang up on the customer or put them on hold indefinately. Tonight I was put on a level because of my AHT and will probably be walked out. They have a double standard they want ONE AND DONE yet you have to do it in 6 1/2 minutes or less which is next to impossible. I had an acct. the other day that had the unlimited plan free for 2 months and it was put on in the middle of the cycle which would have caused all kinds of billing problems I informed the customer and dated the unlimited to the end of their cycle they actually got it for 2 1/2 months free .. my TL got mad said the customer didn’t ask about it so I should have just ignored it. I asked her about the one and done slogan and she said your handle time is what is important. The stress from this job has caused all kinds of medical problems (IBS, Acid reflux, and sleep apnea, & high blood pressure)and now with Convergys managing the call centers our insurance sucks and a medical test I need is not covered. I do not have or want one of their cell phones when I saw all the problems customers have with their service I said to myself “forget it”. My TL tonight suggested I purchase one.HA!!! Most of the advocates there do not give all the information that should be given when someone calls in to make any changes they are to worried about their handle time.. now the emphasis is on selling known as Maximize ..we have to sell a certain % every day like: sprint ld,voice command, vision, etc. If you don’t sell a certain % you don’t get pd. for what you do sell. My Cstat has always been 10 as far as customer satifaction goes and they were paying me an bonus each month I guess they got tired of paying me that and now for some reason my cstat dropped to (2)under the acceptable level and I got nothing on my last check. They promised me $8.50 an hour + time and a half for overtime when I first started with them and then when I got out of training.. sorry we don’t have that anymore. Advocates are slamming on Maximze offers onto customers accounts without the customers knowledge I know I get at least 2 calls a day. They know this is happening and say they will walk the people out but these people are still there. I am lucky to get 2-4 sales a day yet there are people who are getting 15 a day and getting bonus checks for as much as $1470.00 in one month. We are not allowed to hang up on a customer no matter how abusive they get or what they say to us we are told not to take it personally.
Just thought you might want to hear from the inside & what REALLY goes on. I try very hard to do my job I am a senior citizen and they are hiring in young people at more ($2-$3 an hr.)than I am making after working there for almost 3 yrs…definately discrimination!!
I am looking for another job.

I agree with Marge. Everything she is saying about this piece of crap company Sprint is 100% true. I have worked for sprint pcs for over 4 years and i have only recieved a small raise. .10 to be exact. These people are immoral SOB’s that lack common sense. The biggest thing is Maximize sales and everyone wants us to PUSH ld, vision, add a phone etc in order to make decent money. I am 4 months pregnant and havent really been able to be at work due to pre term labor. The last time I went in I ended up having some contractions and needed to go to the hospital (I have a high risk for miscarriage) my supervisor told me that I should just resign and come back after the baby is born because I am making her numbers look bad. Isnt that a wonderful thing to say to a woman who has had 2 miscarriages in the past year? This is the same woman who called herself my biggest supporter BEFORE I got pregnant. Now she wants me to quit my job because I’m expecting. She and Sprint can seriously go f**k themselves. I have a 2 year old and pregnant with one now. After 4 years of dedication to this job you want me to quit? Hell no! Fire me that way I can sue the piss outta you for discrimination! Do you know that we can get written up for going to the bathroom too much in one day? We are only allowed 4 minutes a day to use the restroom. She also “coached” me on that in the beginning when I had my battle with morning sickness.
Then the customers are a damn trip too. I will admit that majority of them have valid complaints and billing issues which are completely not their fault and there are reps out there that just dont give a damn but what about the sneaky morons that have a plan of $100 per month and only pay $30 a month because they always want credits for erroneous things? Those people are what makes it bad for the rest of the customers. Because of dumb people like that we all suffer. Thats why you dont get credit even though you may have been slammed with certain features, we are only permitted to give out courtesy minutes which mean nothing unless you go over your minutes and if that isnt good enough for you, then we can give you a whole $5 courtesy credit. THATS IT!!!!!!! Look for everyone out there BEWARE! Sprint pcs works their employees like slaves, the pay is lousy and if commission is the way to make money for us to feed our families and have some level of job security, unfortunately customers are just casualties. only the strong will survive in their world. Those that sell sell sell are the ones to get the big raises, and the flat screen tv and the cruises etc. Those of us that put the CUSTOMERS FIRST are the ones to get fired if we get caught. So when you call in and argue with someone about a credit you feel you deserve just remember that everything we do is recorded and we WILL have to justify it to mngmt’s satisfaction later, and if we help you but dont sell you we may not be there for too much longer. BIG BROTHER IS ALWAYS WATCHING

As a current employee of Sprint PCS, we were just informed today that the Bollingbrook, Illinois call center is closing due to further outsourcing by the company. The closing of the center will put over 500 employees out of work here in the United States. That means those jobs will be handled by less qualified individuals for less money some where off shore or at a third world country. Its sad that this company would stoop so low as to relieve good employees of there duties in the name of the almighty dollar in order to pacify its stock holders. Sprint PCS specialists…when will you arise and be heard and put a stop to this deliberate betrayal. As for those abuses suffered every day by those specialists at the hands of their team leads and managers, when will you stop and say “enough is enough”. Every day you are held accountable for those “Standards of Performance” or “Stats” which are unrealistic and unachievable. Every time they change the standards of performance, it is further guaranteeing a one way ticket out the door. The operating system used to measure your performance is flawed and full of errors and system issues. Is it fair that you should be judged by this kind of a system that will lead you to be written up and walked out? Nothing could be further from the truth. If you are tracking your sales “CLV” you will notice serious discrepanices in you pay check. Maximixe is totally bogus. Your managers and team leads speak with a fork tongue and tell you everything is ok while behind your back, they are planning to eliminate your job. They show your numbers or stats that show your job performance and judge you negativly and use the reason that you are not doing your job. They will never admit that the system has serious flaws and it is this system that is making your numbers look bad. Shame on you managers and team leads for playing those specialists…shame on you. Take heed and be accountable. I would like to see some of you tried, convicted and jailed for employee abuse on company time. Shame on you. Its not there fault. You managers and team leads lie, cheat and work the “SYSTEM” to suit your own personal agenda. Get my drift? Well folks, tune it next time cause there is more, alot more to follow.

As a former Sprint PCS employee, I echo the comments of those who are cursed by still working for sprint. I do have some advice for disgruntled sprint pcs customers…if you want to cancel service with sprint and are under a contract, the only loophole in the contract is moving out of a coverage area…call in and say you need to cancel because you are moving to an area without coverage available. Say you are moving to Trinidad, Colorado, or any place in Wyoming, Montana…or almost any small, rural town in NM, AZ, UT. (Check the coverage map on Sprintpcs.com) Also this works for international addresses as well (sprint only has coverage in continental US, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam) The early termination fee must be waived in these situations, so sprint will credit the early-term fee. *****NOTE*****This will not work for a WLNP phone number transfer….

SPRINT PROVIDES THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER IMAGINED. My lord. Incompetent idiots. Because of their repeated incompetence, I went through 3 1/2 weeks without a phone, getting transfered from this dept. to another etc. for my broken palm phone. It’s because of this expensive phone that I can’t just pick up and leave. DIE SPRINT DIE!!!!
