Lately, there have been a lot of issues with spammers attacking blogs and leaving spam in the comments. This weekend, several people that I know were victims of Lolita and her porn spam. In response, Jay Allen, along with a team of helpers, has developed the MT-Blacklist: Stop Spam Now plug-in! Let’s hear a round of applause for Jay! whoo hoo!
There are a variety of other options for stopping comment spam, many of which are listed here on ScriptyGoddess in a faboo post written by Kevin. Another good read is Yoz’s Seven Tips for a Spam Free Blog, found over at Donna’s site.
Power to the people!

and the time to protect ourselves is now, before the spammers ramp up their attacks. thanks christine for the link to James Seng’s MT hack! i’m gonna try that next if what i’ve already implemented doesn’t work.
I feel the need to link Ben’s post at SixApart about them possibly building spam-blocking features into the next version of MovableType. The post also mentions that they’ll be talking about MT Pro in more detail very soon!! 😀
That’s wonderful. Now if I only knew how to work this stuff…
I just installed mt-blacklist, and I have to say, it was super-easy to install and appears to be very easy to use. I would highly recommend it.
We’ll be installing Jay’s solution after we get back next week. We’ve used Jay’s stuff for a while: he wrote the original MT-Search that was later added to MT by sixapart.
how strange this must be – but my site hasn’t been it – now, watch, i just jinxed myself… then again, i’m not an MT user.
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this. I am getting right on it.
This is not really about stopping spams in comments, but sort of related… a while ago i received a spam with the url of your site as subject! it acts as if something genuine but sent to the wrong sender. maybe the email addresses of those who commented were crawled from your site? otherwise i don’t know how bigpinkcookie.com and i are related.
Stoping Comment Spam – MT-Blacklist
