Kathy & Tom, Kenny & Elaine, Mandy, Matt, and Kymberlie came over tonight for dinner. The topic of movies that we have seen and haven’t seen came up. I was just informed that they are filming a remake of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. For the record, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is one of my all time favorite movies. I love that movie. I love the cheesy ’70s aspect of the movie. It simply rocks.
On that note, a remake of that movie is just WRONG. I don’t care if Johnny Depp is in it. I don’t care if Tim Burton is doing it. It is wrong, wrong, wrong.
By the way, you know you have a house full of bloggers and blog readers when there is laughter over the fact that you are immediately leaving the room to blog about the wrongness of this remake.
The movie topic came up, by the way, because Jason watched Tron tonight for the very first time.

What’s really funny is when the group pulls out a laptop *while* you’re blogging to check on the updates when you’re done. 😉
Come back downstairs!
So sad, yet so much like my own life.
Had a great time tonight Christine – thanks!! And yes, Willy Wonka is one of my favorite movies too but I am looking forward to the remake – not to replace the original but to give me a new way to love the movie all over again!
Don’t know why it say I’m “Makk” up above. You can call me that if you want, but usually I go by “Matt.” I must’ve forgotten to switch back into dvorak.
It is wrong, isn’t it. BUt they’re doing it a lot lately because film makers seem to think that they can do it better.
Remaking Willy Wonka is one of the worst examples. What next, Labrynth, or Dirty Dancing?!!
Didn’t I buy that for you for your birthday our first year at 4 Guys? I personally think the new one’s going to be lots of fun to see. 🙂
I had a fabulous time tonight, even if I did have to beat you at TP again. 😉
Ah, the first viewing of Tron. I remember that. I had dreams for months.
Willy Wonka is definitely one of my all-time favorite movies, and I too am skeptical of the remake. I’ll probably see it and try to be unbiased, but I don’t believe it will ever replace the original in my eyes.
see, this is what happens as you age…they start making remakes of things that you loved originally. Sucks, huh?
One day, no child will know of the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka. They’ll think Johnny Depp is all there ever was…
Amen!
I am sure there’ll be no hiring of the vertically challenged and painting them orange!! and Verucca Salt won’t be allowed to be rolled out of the building.
I guess it could be worse….they could be doing a sequel.
Is there nothing sacred? Did Hollywood lose its originality card? Dawn of The Dead, Walking Tall… all of this just pisses me off.
Now you know how I felt when I found out they were making a movie out of the book. It’s a book! You’re supposed to read it! Not watch it!
I don’t think they should re-do it, but I must admit that Johnny Depp will make a good Willy Wonka. It just won’t be the same, you can’t re-make a classic! (P.S. I was an “Oompa-Loompa” in a school play when I was about 6 or 7) :o)
Hmmm…it might be wrong, but I’ll still watch (I love TB and JD).
Sorry I couldn’t make it Saturday…it was a busy day with the family in Humble. I am glad to hear y’all had fun, though.
Isn’t it Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Or did they name the movie differently than the book?
I try to love Willy Wonka, but my irrational hatred of Gene Wilder always gets in the way, so I can’t bear to watch it.
Hurrah, hurrah, hurrah, for Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Who are possible 2 of my favourite people.
However, if anone else was making it (with the exception of Jim Henson) then I’d be crying.
Agreed. Some things should just not be toyed with. That’s one of em!
Other-Blogs Update
I have to disagree with this one. I saw “Secret Window” last weekend. Not the best movie–very much a Stephen King story, and a seemingly recyled one at that. But Johnny Depp was incredibly entertaining, and I’ll be looking forward to the Willie Wonka …
