Wrong. Just WRONG.

Kathy & Tom, Kenny & Elaine, Mandy, Matt, and Kymberlie came over tonight for dinner. The topic of movies that we have seen and haven’t seen came up. I was just informed that they are filming a remake of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. For the record, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is one of my all time favorite movies. I love that movie. I love the cheesy ’70s aspect of the movie. It simply rocks.

On that note, a remake of that movie is just WRONG. I don’t care if Johnny Depp is in it. I don’t care if Tim Burton is doing it. It is wrong, wrong, wrong.

By the way, you know you have a house full of bloggers and blog readers when there is laughter over the fact that you are immediately leaving the room to blog about the wrongness of this remake.

The movie topic came up, by the way, because Jason watched Tron tonight for the very first time.

One Peep to Rule Them All?

Easter is here, and I giggle every time I see the Peeps for sale at the store. Some people do more than laugh though. Some people are inspired to work with the Peeps, to make them be something greater, to show them their true destiny … The Lord of the Peeps!

If I had more time, I would design a skin devoted to the Hobbit Peeps. Peeps rule! (Just don’t eat them – they taste nasty!) [via Geek Love]

Do We Need Yet Another Way to Read Blogs?

I spotted at megnut that Kinja, “a new blog reading tool,” is live today.

I have several issues with this.

1. Kinja? What kind of name is Kinja? You actually expect me to remember that?

2. What does it do that my RSS news reader of choice doesn’t do for me already? (Mmmm… RSS. RSS is goooood…)

3. What does it do that other services such as BlogLines can’t do for me already? (At least I can remember that URL.)

4. Is it getting press attention from the NY Times today (password required, free) just because Nick Denton is the president of the company?

5. Can you only read excerpts of blogs through it? Because I really hate only getting experts. I have even evangilized in the past to get people to beef up their RSS feeds to full posts if not full posts with comments. Excerpts annoy me.

6. Back to my original point, and the question others seem to have too (even Nick admits it’s not original) – is it all just hype? What can Kinja (ugh, I hate that word) do for me?

I just don’t get it. Can someone please explain why I should want or need this? I’m all about new gadgets, but Kinja just doesn’t seem to have what I need.

Insert Twilight Zone Music Here…

It always freaks me out when I hear about something very random two times or more in the same day. How does that happen? It’s just freaky. It happened to me not once or twice, but three times yesterday! That is just very, very strange.

Natalie and I went to see Jersey Girl yesterday. The Kevin Smith factor got us there, but it was different than his usual style. It was cute, it made me laugh, it made me get misty-eyed at least two times (yeah, not your typical Kevin Smith movie at all…), and it was just generally good. Matt Damon and Jason Lee made their required appearances – er, in the movie, not in the theater itself. Yeah, I wish. Anyways, it was a nice break in an otherwise very busy day, worth the matinee ticket price.

During the movie, the topic of the movie “Dirty Dancing” came up. Ben’s character quotes a line from the film to Gertie, saying “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” in his best Patrick Swayze voice.

Later in the day, I was at my parent’s house, and my Mom commented on how there are numerous planets lined up in the sky and visible to the naked eye right now. I got back in my car and Kymberlie called to let me know that she was on her way over to the house. In the conversation, she asks me if I knew that there are all these planets that are visible right now. What?!? I am amused, as I had just been talking about that three minutes earlier.

Kymberlie and I head over to Wal-Mart, and brought home the Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture game. While we played the game, guess what question comes up in the movie category? Not just a reference to Dirty Dancing. Oh no. That would just be amusing. There is actually a question in the game that asks what film has the line “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” What?!? How random is that?!?

I immediately commented on the fact that that line was in “Jersey Girl” and it was therefore freaky-weird.

Later in the game, a question comes up about “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and the song that Cameron Diaz sings at the karaoke bar. Just to distract Kymberlie, and hopefully have a shot at winning the game, I ask her what the name of the song is from the “Lobster scene” in the movie – the one where everyone is sitting in the restaurant singing along. You know, “Each morning I wake up … I *mutter something mutter* makeup …” Bam! It comes to me. “I say a little prayer for you…” Whew! That has been bugging me for days. I thought I was going to have to rent the movie just to remember the song!

After Kymberlie left for home, I couldn’t sleep (what a surprise!) so I decided to read a few blogs. I could not stop laughing when I came across Natalie’s post asking for the name to the exact same song!

Three times in one day. Damn. That’s just weird. Is it just me, or does this happen to everyone? Quite the prelude to April Fool’s Day.

All The Cool Kids Are Doing It…

I am one of those people that tries to do this every day, but in case you didn’t know – this has been declared “International Blog Comment Week – Say something because you were there.”

So if you’re here – say something. It is an international holiday of sorts, after all. Come on, don’t be shy. It’s ok to jump in and speak up!
