Amuse Me

Today’s Deep Thought…

I’ve been saying it over and over since I started watching all of these Seinfeld episodes (see my last post) – is it just me, or is the Blogosphere itself a lot like watching Seinfeld? The show about nothing is just as entertaining as the blogs about nothing, don’t you think?

Over and over, I keep wanting to say “Get out!” It’s all Elaine’s fault…

Seinfeldathon…

I’ve been craving some Seinfeld. I remember the first season or two, I thought the show was terrible. I never watched it. Then somewhere along the way, I was hooked. I think I’ve seen every episode.

Finally, on Sunday I remembered to check the Tivo lineup to find out when Seinfeld is on. Turns out it’s on 3-4 times a day! Get out! So I’ve been Tivo’ing all of them. I can’t get enough Seinfeld. I need more Seinfeld!

Some of my favorite Seinfeld moments of the past few days?
– Kramer has found the Merv Griffin set and has set it up for his own show.
– Elaine just called a guy “sponge worthy”!
– George wants to be called “T-Bone”.
– Elaine is driving. Just a bit worse than her dancing!
– We meet Poppie, while Jerry dates the chick that won’t eat the pie.
– Chinese gum.

And many more. It’s funny how much of the Seinfeld lingo eventually worked it’s way in to society. Just try saying “No soup for you!” with the Soup Nazi tone. Or the sponge-worthy thing. Almost everyone knows what that means. It amuses me to no end. I love Seinfeld!

What’s your favorite episode? I just can’t decide – I can’t pick just one!

Weather Blogging…

Really, this isn’t going to turn in to a weather blog, but at the moment it’s the most exciting thing I have to say. Claudette came and went, and as far as hurricanes go it wasn’t too bad here in Houston. Wet, icky, and clouds moving zippy fast – but no lightening or thunder, and the flooding wasn’t as bad as it’s been in previous storms. I was convinced yesterday morning that I would be trapped and unable to get home again – so the lack of flooding was really good news for me! It was sunny by the time I left work and headed for home, quite a switch from the drive to work.

Today it’s just as gray and icky outside, with thunder and lightening added in. It could be what is causing my gloomy mood – I hate it when it’s like this. Add to that the fact that I have a sore throat and I just want to curl up in bed and read the Order of the Phoenix. I now have two weeks worth of e-mails to answer, but last night after I signed up in FitnessTrainer.com and went thru the whole routine with my personal trainer, I just didn’t have the energy. Tonight. Must get to those tonight. I’m also sending out “H-Town meets Beantown” invitations – so if you’re in the Boston area and you want to attend, let me know and I’ll be sure to include you!

Stress is just way too high right now. Is it time for my vacation yet?

Hurricane Claudette Goes Coastal…

Hurricane Claudette sweeps ashore, but worst yet to come.

I wish I had a video camera this morning so I could record just how fast the clouds are moving. It’s just raining here, but we are under tornado watch advisory and flash flood warnings. It’s very wet and very gray outside – and windy!

If you want to keep an eye on things, there is a really cool Galveston Webcam. It’s not pretty out there right now. Claudette has arrived.

Update: No video camera, but I did snap a photo with the phone camera during my drive to work.

Being a Mom is Painful, Part I…

Jason returned from his almost 3 week road trip with my parents yesterday and made it home in time for dinner last night. Do all 11 year old boys have problems telling you what they did and what they saw on their trip? I thought I was going to have to open his mouth and pry out the details of what he had seen! He was happy to show me the rocks he got when he visited the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota, and he offered up details on the Playstations he visited across the land.

As I was going to bed, I thought I heard him call for me from his bedroom. When I went in to his room, he was sitting up part way, but he didn’t really look awake. I went in and asked what was wrong, and he mumbled an answer (sort of) but wouldn’t lay down. I tried rubbing his arm and his shoulder as I guided him towards his pillow again. He looked serene and like he was going to go back to sleep, and so I leaned down to give him a kiss on the cheek.

And that’s when it happened.

BAM! He sat bolt upright, right in to my nose! I somehow got him to lay back down, and then I just stood there. I’ve had the wind knocked out of me, but never on my face! Ouch! I was stunned. I couldn’t breath at first, and for a moment I thought I was going to faint. Then I composed myself and quietly left his room and went back to bed. I swear, for awhile I couldn’t feel my nose. It was all tingly and weird. Ouch. I’m still surprised that I didn’t have black and blue eyes this morning, but today it just hurt a little. But it still hurts some.

Time to diagnose myself with some good, old-fashioned WebMD. With a slogan like “Trustworthy, Credible, and Timely Health Information,” how can you not believe everything they say? Have you ever noticed that once you get done at WebMD, you’ve convinced yourself that you have every disease you come across? Or is that just me?

How would I know if I have a broken nose? Do they splint a broken nose? Will I have to wear two popsicle sticks and some white hospital tape on my nose while it mends? Really, if you think about it – how hysterical would that look?!
