I just heard on the news that Darryl Kile was found dead today in his Chicago hotel room. I remember Kile from his days pitching in Houston, and it’s sad that someone who was only 33 would die so suddenly. It seems odd that it would be of “natural causes” but considering his family history (his father died at the age of 44) I guess it is possible. Scary though, considering he was only a year older then I am. Reminding me once again that life is precious.

Hot & Sticky…
Old Spice ranked the 50 Sweatiest Cities in the Country. Why, I wonder? Oh well, the point of this post is this. Guess where my favorite city (note sarcasm) ended up at on the list? Yes, Houston is #4. Well – I’ll give Houston this much – after being in Tucson last week where you felt like you were going to burst into flame when you went outside, Houston seemed nice and cool this week at a cozy 93 degrees! A Voice in the Darkness…
When I think of a weblog, blog, journal online, whatever you want to call it, I normally think of a fun place for someone to post their thoughts, feelings, ideas, photographs, links to sites that they like and any number of other things. But have you ever stopped to think of how weblogs can truly change things? Web gives a voice to Iranian women. “I could talk very freely and very frankly about things I could never talk about in any other place, about subjects that are banned” said one of the first women to start a blog in Iran. Makes you stop and think about all the freedoms some of us truly enjoy daily without ever realizing how oppressed other people are around the globe. Many of the people reading this site right now have the freedom to write about whatever they want. Not everyone in the world can say that though.
It’s a Crime!
I’m all for cracking down on kids and making sure they follow the rules to keep them in line. But to call a spitball a felony is just a bit extreme if you ask me. Accidents happen, but this puts a whole new spin on the “you could poke someone’s eye out” thing that your mom always used to say.
Is it the End?
West to get solar eclipse. Once again, I’m screwed by living in Houston. We’ll probably only have about 1/5th of the sun blocked. On the other hand, if I was in San Diego, 3/4ths of the sun would be hidden. [via David Gagne]
