It’s a Sad Day in the Neighborhood…

Oh no! My beloved Mister Rogers died today at age 74. I *loved* Mister Rogers when I was little – I liked to sing along with his songs, watch the adventures of the trips he would take us on, and like Bran, I even liked to watch him feed the fish. He was a great asset to children’s TV programs out there, and he will be missed.

It’s such a good feeling to know you’re alive.
It’s such a happy feeling: You’re growing inside.
And when you wake up ready to say,
“I think I’ll make a snappy new day.”
It’s such a good feeling, a very good feeling.
The feeling you know that
I’ll be back when the day is new
And I’ll have more ideas for you.
And you’ll have things you’ll want to talk about.
I will too.
It’s such a good feeling, a very good feeling.
The feeling you know that we’re friends.

Blogs, Blogs, Everywhere…

If you haven’t heard already, Google bought Pyra Labs, the creators of Blogger. With a little less fanfare, it seems that Microsoft is testing the blogging-tool waters, and that same article goes on to say that AOL is building blogging tools and MSN is considering the same. Interesting, very interesting. I can’t help but wonder how all of this is going to change the blog world, but I imagine it will be for the best. Today if you tell people that you have a blog they give you a sort of puzzled look, wondering if that’s some sort of new disease or something. In the future, maybe blogs will be as common as e-mail addresses? [via Weblogs Compendium]

Speaking of blogs, there is a new PHP blogging tool on the block – BC Journal. (I wonder if the site is being hit hard, I can’t get it to load now. Hmm…) [also via Weblogs Compendium]

Gothic Miss Manners gives some wonderful tips for blog writers and readers. [via Meredith]

Keeping the Peace…

When it comes to the Nobel Peace Prize, “Thousands of people around the world have the right to make nominations, including members of all national parliaments, members of international law courts, professors of history, social science, philosophy and theology and former winners.” So, who was it that nominated Bono? Bundle Up, Baby!

Like Jen mentioned earlier today, it’s about to turn freakin’ cold here in Houston. I know that some of you are used to it, but just last week it was hot. I had the air conditioner going full speed to deal with the heat every time I got in my car, and I even got the professional ac repair services to help me add a little ore power to my homes’ AC. Coming soon? According to weather.com it’s currently 49 degrees, but it’s going to get down to 46 tonight. Now check out the next few days:

Thursday: High 58 / Low 29
Friday: High 47 / Low 27
Saturday: High 57 / Low 30
Sunday: High 61 / Low 40
Monday: High 65 / Low 43

Last winter I don’t think it froze more than 2 times. I didn’t even have to haul out blankets to cover my plants. It doesn’t look like I’m getting off quite so easily this year. Three nights in a row with lows before freezing? I’m screwed. It’s been so hot down here I don’t even own a winter coat! Brrrrr…

Someone should alert the media though – I know why it’s getting so cold here. Hell is freezing over. I finally watched Kymberlie’s copy of “Ocean’s 11” today – and I loved it! What a great movie! Absolutely fantastic!
