It’s All About the Love…

What type of Valentine gifter are you? This question has been on my mind for the past week or so. I’m not a big gift giver on Valentine’s Day. Never really have been. I hate receiving flowers on this day because I know they are outrageously overpriced, and that really bothers me.

I guess I would prefer to get a gift “just because” instead of on Valentine’s Day. Heck, we just had Christmas 6 weeks ago – and my birthday isn’t until September, so the gift giving gets kind of dry for the next few months. I think I would prefer a gift in May or June over today. A little something is nice, and my latest yarn goodies are actually my Valentine’s Day gift (hey, I got something I really wanted!), and Mike got a Chemex coffee pot, and that is enough. No jewelry, nothing too over the top – I’m all about the little things. We had a nice dinner at home and we’re going to watch “Under the Tuscan Sun” and maybe “Love Actually” if we have time. Nice and quiet.

Am I the only one? How do you feel when it comes to Valentine’s Day?

My ex always made a big deal about how he didn’t give flowers on Valentine’s because they were expensive. I hated that. I was like, what? am I not worth it? It doesn’t have to be a dozen long-stemmed roses, or even flowers, but please do not make a production out of telling me I don’t deserve expensive things.

(And I definitely believe in just-because gifts and flowers. Thinking I’m worth it and he’s worth it on the big days doesn’t mean we’re not worth it the rest of the year!)

You must be my daughter that you would rather have gifts all year instead of just because it is Valentine’s Day! Gee…I wonder?!

Ginger, you’re right. Flowers are nice. I would prefer the under $10 bouquet at the grocery store over the $100 roses though – especially when it’s my money too! 😀 It was one thing when I was single and they were being bought for me – but now I can think of so many other things I would prefer we spend that money on!

I like any gift. I want the Valentine one and the just-because one, along with birthday, Christmas.

The just-because gifts can be small, since it’s the thought that counts, but I want something I’d really like on the other occasions. That doesn’t mean expensive, but it could mean expensive.

And I don’t think that I’m high maintenance or anything, I just like presents, and I like to give them too.

We always buy the kids a new shirt and wrap it the night before. In the morning, they run in and see their special ‘Valentines’ shirt. Better for them than candy. Plus, they have new stuff to wear to the school parties…

I love the little gifts. I like flowers sometimes, but they die and what does that say? LOL. My V-day gift this year was a nutty little toy that’s been amusing me for hours. The best kind, I say.

It’s All About the Love…

So there is this big discussion going on over at SXSWbaby! and it reminded me of something I realized while at SXSW… I’ve been spending WAY too much time online. Matter of fact, some of you may have noticed my absence both during the conference and afterwards. No, this is not one of those “I’m leaving the blog world” posts. It is just meant to let you know that if I am not around much on the weekend, that’s why. I have some major house reorganizing I want to complete. I want to get out more and do more things with Jason. Museums. Parks. Places that are not computer friendly. I have cross-stitch projects I want to work on. I have books to read. I’ll be around, don’t worry. But I am evaluating my time online and cutting back somewhat. We’ll see what that means in the future. Now shut off your pc and go enjoy some fresh air.

I think a lot of people are doing that now that winter is pretty much over. I was out for a walk with the kids and I thought to myself, “Why have I been spending so much time inside for the past few months?” and then I remembered, “Oh yeah, because it was frickin’ FREEZING before!” lol ;o)

i unnerstand, completely. spring cleaning: reorganize the home, the closets, the storage, the finances, the relationships, yourself…gotta do it. isn’t it sad though, that you almost feel guilty about being absent from the web? i speak from experience. i end up posting a “hey, i’m still here and i still love you!” kind of thing whenever i go through these phases. we were truly born 2 blog, baby. heh.

I understand. I too am trying to be online less. However, I love the nights online to talk to friends.

The days are getting better. Today we actually went to the park and I walked around a couple laps of the track.

Good luck on your cross stitch also. I have quite a few projects to do. (An entire file cabinet worth.) lol
