Whathuh?

As I deleted my 3,692 moderated spam comments, I came across one message that caught my eye. Trackback spam for cartoon incest.

Cartoon incest? Just how does that work? And is there a big secret market for that that I never knew about before?

It sort of freaks me out to think of Fred and Pebbles getting it on.

I Surrender…

I’ve decided to break up with the Dell Latitude with Attitude. It’s giving me too much attitude, refusing to allow me to type critical letters. I seem to use the letters “T” and “M” way too often. Fortunately, I live in Geek Utopia, and there was the itty bitty laptop just waiting in the wings. This is going to be an interesting switch, as I have nothing set up on this laptop, I’m not used to working on Windows XP (I’ve been using Win2000 for years), it has a condensed keyboard vs. the full size keyboard of the Dell, the monitor is small, and I had to install Firefox, so I have no plugins installed. It will be an adjustment.

On a positive note, this laptop weighs about 2.1 pounds with the 2 hour battery, and is still under 4 pounds with the 9 hour battery. And it’s so small it fits into my purse, just over 1/2″ thick. Feel free to have geek envy…

It’s All About the Love…

What type of Valentine gifter are you? This question has been on my mind for the past week or so. I’m not a big gift giver on Valentine’s Day. Never really have been. I hate receiving flowers on this day because I know they are outrageously overpriced, and that really bothers me.

I guess I would prefer to get a gift “just because” instead of on Valentine’s Day. Heck, we just had Christmas 6 weeks ago – and my birthday isn’t until September, so the gift giving gets kind of dry for the next few months. I think I would prefer a gift in May or June over today. A little something is nice, and my latest yarn goodies are actually my Valentine’s Day gift (hey, I got something I really wanted!), and Mike got a Chemex coffee pot, and that is enough. No jewelry, nothing too over the top – I’m all about the little things. We had a nice dinner at home and we’re going to watch “Under the Tuscan Sun” and maybe “Love Actually” if we have time. Nice and quiet.

Am I the only one? How do you feel when it comes to Valentine’s Day?

To N or not to N…

For some time my delete key on the laptop has worked only when it feels like it. And the down arrow has the same issue. Ok, fine – I can work around them now that I disabled the need to “Ctrl+Alt+Del” when booting up the laptop. I can’t work around the issue of the N, H, M, Y and other keys not working. It makes it impossible to type. Absolutely impossible.

Come on laptop baby… be good to me. I looooove you, Dell Latitude with Attitude. You’ve made it for 3+ years; don’t give out on me now! We’ve been through so much together! I need you!

(But if you don’t stop this, I’ve got everything backed up and I’m not afraid to ship you off for repair…)

When the Blogosphere and Reality Collide…

Today, my friend Katy & I set off on a knitting adventure. She had told me a few weeks ago about Twisted Yarns, a LYS (aka Local Yarn Store) about 20 minutes from my house, and today was their First Anniversary Sale. All of the regularly priced yarns in the store were 15% off – how can you pass that up?

Of course, when you go to a LYS, you must wear something that you made. Katy wore an absolutely gorgeous sweater vest, and I wore the only project I have completed so far – my Pink Power scarf. Shortly after we arrived at the store, one of the nice ladies working there commented on Katy’s vest. Katy started to introduce me to her, and I said that I had made my scarf. She said that she liked it, and then she paused … and then she asked me if I had a blog because she had seen my scarf already this morning!

I almost did the “Get OUT!” move, complete with the push, but you know what? That’s just not a nice thing to do to someone you just met.

So today, not only did I get to procure fabulous yarn, I got to meet Janet of Planet Janet! (Interplanet Janet, she’s a galaxy girl!) She, along with everyone else at Twisted Yarns, was so helpful! I now have enough yarn to make plenty of projects!

– GGH Bali in Col. No. 40 (royal blue) to make the “Simple Cardigan” from Sally Melville’s book, The Purl Stitch
– Noro Kureyon Col. No. 134 to make the Booga Bag
– Cascade 220 in Col. No. 2410 (purple) to make the Sophie.
– Sockotta in Col. No. 621 to make socks! (I am going to take a class for this in the next few weeks.)

I went there with my heart set on getting some Collinette Prism, and the Blue Parrot color was absolutely beautiful, but it was a heart stopping price of $25+ per skein. I just couldn’t do it. Not yet. Maybe as a reward once I get through all of my other projects. Maybe I should have a knitting fundraiser to help foot the bill?

Dude, Janet recognized my scarf. From my blog. I mean … how cool is that? I love it when the Blogosphere and reality collide!
