Temp Assignment version 1.1

From the Interview v1.0 yesterday, I have Temp Assignment v1.1 tomorrow. (Yes, I do plan on keeping up a numbering system that coordinates all of the interviews with other interviews and jobs, a practice I honed while handling the fast-paced logistics around casinos Maryland has. In case you were wondering.) This temp assignment is at 8am in the Galleria area. Those of you that are familiar with Houston are aware that the Galleria is on 610, also referred to by me as “The Loop from Hell”. I have never been on 610 near the Galleria when there isn’t bad traffic. Seriously. Add to this the fact that I’m used to getting up at 7am – a routine built from juggling those chaotic timetables – and tomorrow morning I have to leave before 7am. Because even though it should only be a 30 minute drive, I know it will be at least an hour if not more. Dear Lord, what was I thinking?

I should go put some toothpicks in my purse to help keep my eyes open by the afternoon. I’m going to wish I could just take a nap – I can see it now. Let’s just hope it’s a busy day – that will keep my focused. A girl can dream … ah, the joys of temping.

And yes, a 30 minute drive is considered “close” in Houston. This is Texas after all, and while we’re proud of how large our state is – is that a guy thing or what? – nothing, and I mean nothing, is close.

Almost Caught Up…

I realized tonight that I had episodes of “The Amazing Race” on Tivo that went all the way back to October 30th, so it was time to clear them off! So now I’ve watched up to last week, but I am going to bed instead of watching tonight’s two hour episode. Hello? I don’t have a job – I can watch it during the day tomorrow!

I am not doing my usual full post about all the little details of each episode thanks to the fact that I’m writing this on the PC in Jason’s room instead of on a laptop in front of the TV. However, I do still have some thoughts to share:

:: Flo is a pain in the ass. Hello? Could she complain any more? Poor Zach. Why does he put up with it? And what’s up with his hair?

:: The Wonder Twins have grown on me. I hated them in the beginning – how can you like someone that every episode has “Twins/Models” under their name? But they are getting better and legitimately hanging in there.

:: I think Ken & Gerard are my favorite team. Of course, if you’ve watched TAR a lot, you know that this can change from one week to another.

:: Jill & John Vito are also growing on me. His name still bugs me though. I’m sorry, I just can’t deny it.

:: Teri & Ian. Oy. Ugh. Oy. She whines almost as much as Flo, and Ian is just a bastard. Could he be more mean? “Hump it, Teri! Hump it!” I think I would have volunteered to do the archery shot in Grindelwald and accidentally shot HIM if I was her.

:: Can I just say that I *LOVE* when they are in places that I have visited? Munich. Neuschwanstein. Fussen. Grindelwald. *sigh* Can we please go to Germany? Someone? Anyone? It’s the perfect time of the year for the Christmas Markets (Christkindlesmarkt in Nuernberg would work) and some gluhwein. Yum, yum! (Recipe below from another site.)

:: What about the 911 boys? Dude, can you believe what they did? I mean … really? Damn. (Yes, this sentence is intentionally cryptic so I don’t spoil it for anyone.)

More tomorrow – I have two more hours of TAR to watch, and I can’t wait!

Interview version 1.0

Whew! This job hunting stuff is hard work! But today was my first interview, and it went quite well. It was with a recruiting firm that I have worked with before, so that took a lot of the pressure off of me. They have a permanent job placement that I would be a good fit for, so they are working on sending me out for that. Meanwhile, they have temp work as soon as Friday, and a lot around the holidays. The temp pay is less than I am used to because it’s mainly receptionist positions, but not a lot less – and money is money, I’m not making anything just sitting around at home! Now I’m just waiting for the three other agencies that have my resume to set something up, along with the one law firm that I sent it to directly.

Advent…

Thanks to Dawn, I discovered that Leslie Harpold has an online Advent Calendar with delightful daily treats. As I looked at the first day of Advent, I noticed a link for the history of Advent Calendars. Some of you may have noticed that I absolutely love Germany and all things related to it – and I have a now 11 year old German Advent Calendar that I put up every year, but it has seen better days. Since I don’t have the funds to return to Rothenberg o.d. Tauber right now to buy a new one, I was thrilled to see that this is the company that makes them and they sell them online! Mine is the 3rd from the top, but I must get the one that is the 2nd from the top too – it looks just like Rothenberg! *sigh*

Anyone want to go to Germany and take me along with them? I would be happy to be your tour guide!

Ring My Bell…

I have a confession. I screen my calls. Thanks to the joy of caller ID, most of the time I don’t answer calls that say “Unknown” or “Out of Area”. Especially not the unknown ones – I figure if I don’t know you, then you don’t know me. Most of the time this is true and spares me the agony of a lot of sales calls. However, I paused this morning when I saw the 416 area code… something told me I should answer – and what a pleasant surprise! It was Rannie calling to check up on me and make sure I was doing ok! Wheeee!!! I can’t even tell you how giddy and excited I was to hear from him – it’s was so wonderful! Thank you for calling me!

By the way, if you ever call me at home & I don’t answer (that whole screening thing) just leave a voicemail. I’ll call you right back. I promise.

On a completely separate note, later when I set more things up on this annoying PC I must remember to set up BlogAmp so I can have a working playlist again. I also need to set up Trillian so I can get back on AIM, MSN Messenger, and all the others. Right now, I have no chat abilities, and I can’t really be an unemployed Blogger without that now, can I?
