The Amazing Invisible Moon…

I was at work until 9:00 tonight. Getting one attorney ready for a trial while he is trying to prepare a brief at the same time, and another attorney ready for a deposition tomorrow. No time to stop for much of anything.

Driving home, I realized I forgot to call in a prescription I needed refilled. I decided to turn to the south instead of the north and head to the closest Walgreens to pick it up. As I was driving, I noticed that the moon looked … well, strange. I knew there was just a full moon last night, so it was odd that I could only see a small sliver at the top. Interesting. I thought that it looked like an eclipse, but … there must just be clouds blocking the rest of it. I would have to check it out when I got to the store.

I got there, but never got out of the car because the store was already closed. I forgot all about it by the time I got home.

Know what happens when you’re so busy at work that you don’t have time to read the news or watch TV? Yeah… you completely miss the fact that there actually was a full lunar eclipse tonight!

Public Service…

Molly Ivins says it very well about the “Killer Ds” and the Texas Legislature:

Believe me, stopping the legislature from functioning at this point is high public service.

The choices on how to spend money couldn’t possibly make Republican “values” any clearer. We can spend money on corporate welfare, but not on people’s welfare. We can’t cover health insurance for our teachers, but we must have brush control.

The creepy thing about the far-right Republicans, who are definitely in the majority in the House, is not that they are dismantling government because they won’t raise taxes, they’re dismantling government because they think it shouldn’t help people.

[via Michael]

Let me be perfectly clear – I don’t think everyone deserves a hand out. I do believe some people deserve a hand up. Taking away health insurance from 250,000 children and medicine from the mentally ill among a long list of other things just seems wrong.

Law on the Lam!

So, have you heard the news? I think this is just hysterical. In order to prevent gerrymandering and the Republicans changing the voting districts around in Texas, 52 Democrats took off and hid in Ardmore, Oklahoma. At least they left a note. By skipping town and leaving the state (so they wouldn’t be forced to go back to Austin) they prevented the Texas House from having a constitutional quorum. The Houston Chronicle has a great editorial on it all, and Charles at Off the Kuff has several informative posts about it, including this helpful Q&A.

It should be noted that, “House rules allow for the arrest of members who intentionally thwart a quorum. Reports were that most of the missing members had left the state to avoid such arrest.”

I just can’t believe they took off like that. Classic. I swear, you can only get entertainment like this in Texas!

I Know – We’ll Say it’s a Joke!

Now Microsoft is claiming that the iLoo was just a joke. Oh, sure. You’ll make your April’s Fools Day joke much more effective if you wait until May 2 to announce it. Yep. [via Mike]

I think it’s just a cover up because we were all laughing at how silly the concept of the iLoo was. Not buying the whole “joke” thing. Good try!

Porta-Potty WiFi…

Yahoo! has more info on the iLoo. This thing just cracks me up. Where is the Lysol wipes dispenser so you can clean off that keyboard? And you know they would won’t be marketing these in the US any time soon because all the monitors and keyboards would be stolen. (No, I’m not dissin’ people in the U.S. You know I’m right about that.)
