For the Record…

Sometimes you have to post about things so you won’t forget the milestones down the road. Last night was one of those moments. When I got home, I chatted for a bit with Katherine, who put my mind at ease over my CSS stress. After we talked, I finally let it go. I allowed myself to dive into CSS, and guess what?

I finally GOT IT.

I was debugging. I was moving containers. I was span-ing and div-ing all over the place. With the exception of one item on my list of changes to make, I made it happen. I had triple columns. I had borders. I had backgrounds.

It was a beautiful moment. For once, CSS did not make my eyes bleed. I might just learn to finally love CSS after all. That is worth remembering.

CSS gives you power over your design. It is a very good thing and the fact that you can change multiple pages with one file is awesome.

If you ever need any help and don’t have anyone else around, just ask. I am pretty good at it.

Ooh la la, this is nice!

I have a question: Did you use WP’s div names or your own (or combo). I skinned mine in the past, and used my own. The next time I upgraded, it was a big mess trying to match my css/index up with WP’s new codes in the index. I ended up yanking mine, and just using WP themes that used WP’s CSS names so they’d upgrade easier.

I’m sure it wouldn’t have been so bad if I had more experience.

For the record, cottage cheese is one of the most vile and disgusting foods ever made. Nasty!

Mmmmm, cottage cheese. Soooo good. 🙂 I once worked with a pharmacist who would sprinkle pepper on cottage cheese and eat it like that. (It’s actually pretty good that way, but I prefer mine plain.)

Oh, I love cottage cheese. Especially the large curd kind, with salt and pepper. So so so good. Of course, I love pretty much any sort of cheese, except brie. Bleah, brie.

I used to hate it with a passion, and suddenly started loving it when I was so starved for food, and all my mom had was cottage cheese.

Ever since then, I’ve loved it. Although not with fruit…eeeewww.

Try the full-fat kind first, not the low or non…those are nasty.

I feel for you. Most cottage in the US is made with guar gum (sp) and it makes the ccheese awful. Check to see if you can find (oh, can’t think of the name now) Byer’s?, Breyer’s? in the supermarket. It’s an all natural, kosher, and tastes like cottage cheese should.

Is this wedding arrangements avoidance? 😉

Playing “I Never” on the trampoline in Natalie’s backyard with a margarita? Not a smart idea. A lot of fun, and very amusing. But damn. Not smart. At least I wasn’t drinking alone.

So, what would you have to drink to if you were playing “I Never”? Or should I even ask?

I’d read this as what would you have to drink if playing I never – and signed in to answer… but oh no… it’s more a question of what I wouldn’t have to drink to…

For the Record…

For the record, Sam, Jennifer’s now blogless husband, makes a wicked kick-ass margarita. Yummmm, yum! So the three of us are sitting here at the dining room table, each with our own laptop – Sam had two out earlier – wait, you think I’m kidding, right? I’m not. We had South Park on and were talking about Robyn and Todd and enjoying the moment (good things of course, just how much we adore you guys and wish you were here). I am here in Geek Nirvana, and we’re considering videotaping the naked guy surfing the web (it appears to be porn) on the second floor of the building. Shirtless, and we presume bottomless because of what Sam & Jenn witnessed last week, with large photos on his monitor right next to the window.

Oh, and their daughter Rachel? She’s a little angel. Too adorable for words.

My stiff and sore neck is gone, not even a glimmer of a headache today… life is good.

If I’m rambling, blame on the Jose Cuervo. God, I needed a vacation, and Sam makes a good margarita.

Ahhhhh…margarita, cha cha cha! Wish we could be there, too — but we’re living vicariously through you guys! Too funny ’bout the neighbor, btw. 🙂 Give Jennifer, Sam and Rachel a big group-hug for me!

For the Record…

I bought a digital camera last summer. I owe my parents money. I am normally very frugal, and don’t buy things unless they are absolute necessities. I have bought things like a jacket for work, or a new pair of pants. I sometimes spend money on something like a shot for a cat. The vast majority of my funds are spent on exciting things like rent, groceries, the phone bill (which I actually considered giving up a month ago because I don’t use the phone that much – but decided not to because setting it back up is a pain), car insurance, the light bill, the car registration and inspection sticker that I have to do tomorrow, the car payment, and the rest of the dental work that I have to have done this year. Any leftover money I have will go to paying them off as quickly as possible because as I have said for some time, I want that monkey off of my back. I have even let go of the dream of sending Jason to the Catholic school that I think would be MUCH better for him until next fall because I want to pay them off that much sooner. If I sent him now it would mean that I would need their assistance to make the tuition, and I don’t want to have to ask for that.

I friviliously spent some of a commission check and some of my proceeds from some soap & lotion sales this summer on a digital camera (mainly soap & lotion sale money). And … I never told them about it. Matter of fact, just last week (because I had no desire for a lecture) I told them I didn’t have one.

There. Now that we have set that record straight hopefully I don’t have to hear any more about it.

Gee, why don’t you sit down and talk to your parents about this??? I am sure they have Jason’s best interests at heart also, so maybe you should try talking. Honesty and being able to talk are two important qualities.

Gee, I have tried to talk to them. I’ve been trying to talk about this since December 14th with them (actually earlier). I thought we had resolved that he was going to go to the Catholic school on December 14th – my mom’s birthday, then I was told no, that they couldn’t help with the tuition, she didn’t want to make the drive daily to the school, and then maybe, and then … I stayed up until 4am Christmas morning talking about this. There isn’t a whole lot left to talk about … last I was told, they didn’t have the money to help pay the tuition, and I can’t pay it on my own. If that situation has changed, it’s up to them to let me know. I’m not going to keep asking them for it when they told me no already.

Bought it right after someone else bought your plane tickets. Gee,thanks! Don’t you see it???!!! We pay all the expenses for Jason and you buy DVD players, Tivo, cameras, etc. Is there a problem here?

Plane tickets were bought in late March early April. I did NOT buy it “right after someone else bought my plane tickets.” DVD player wasn’t purchased by me, it was a gift over a year ago. I will be happy to give you the $40 for my plane ticket (as Dad stated in July that it was $40 for each ticket) … just stop posting snide comments on my site.

Wrong again!!!! I asked your Dad and he said it was the credit (which we didn’t have to use on YOU) plus $40 more. So it was NOT just $40. You can sure take one detail and make it sound good! You’ll never get it! It was a ticket worth over $400 we used on you. No thanks either. By the way, we did not purchase them in March. Where’d you get that idea? I can post anything here I want. You open your dirty laundry for the world (just like Oprah!) and this is what you get.

Fer fuck’s sake, you’re a grownup, Christine. I cannot believe you’re having to deal with these snide, bitter comments. Talking is one thing, acting completely immature and taking pot-shots on someone’s website is quite another. You’re a bigger person than I am. I would not HESITATE to ban Jeanette’s IP from accessing my site altogether if I were you. ((((((((Christine)))))))))))

For the Record…

P22 type foundry – Not Your Typical Type has forever earned my undying love and devotion. I just thought I would share that with you. Richard Kegler and I have been exchanging e-mails today after he came across my blog and my “Fonts are worse than crack” post. (No, I don’t do crack, so I don’t know if fonts are really worse, but I am addicted to them (fonts) regardless.) I gushed about how wonderful their fonts are. I would seriously buy almost every single one of them if I could. And handwriting fonts especially – those are my downfall every time. In the exchange of our e-mails, I paused to think (wow, that rarely happens!) and I realized that what he said is true … pirating fonts takes money away from people that create them for a living. And if everyone did it, leaving the font makers without income, those of us that love & adore fonts would lose in the end. As I told him, my desire for the Frank Lloyd Wright fonts were because they are so beautiful, but I have no “need” for them, I can’t justify buying them right now because I just *want* them. I want to know I have them. But I don’t have a specific project that requires them. I just like to admire them. I received such a nice, wonderful e-mail in return – which is why I am posting this message … support P22! They get the 2-thumbs up seal of approval from me!

Yeah, I really do see a difference between a paying project – and a playing project. If it’s for a client – absoluetly – shareware or pay – the client’s going to pay for it. But if it’s just so I can play around with it – get the feeling of the font… I can’t see coughing up the money for it – especially when some of them are $100 or more for one style. It’s too bad you can’t buy a “limited license” of these fonts so you can play with them – try them out in layouts… Then have a pay scale based on what the use is – is it for a not-for-profit blog? is it for a client’s letterhead? An advertising campaign… The fact that the price is the same for all of these uses doesn’t seem fair to me… JMHO.
