For Now, This is It…

Leave me alone, I'm busy.

Like the colors of the design here? I do. I’m all about the pink/black/white combination. I always have been, if you have noticed in any of my past designs. So for now, this one is going to stay. Hopefully the colors are easy for everyone to read. I’ll continue to tweak the sidebar, and eventually I’ll add more pages. But for now – I’m sticking with this design. I have other things I need to do that are higher on my priority list. Spend more time with my family. Take pictures. Go back to school next week. Learn Photoshop. Knit. Learn even more about Photoshop. Clean the house. Study Trig, Biology and Chemistry. Spend even more time with my family. Relax. Enjoy life.

All of which are more important than mucking around with a design that works quite well. I even got it to be wide enough to handle the 500 pixel wide photo above. (After many years, I’m still rather CSS clueless.) When I find my old template (in the correct form) and have time to figure out some things I want to change about it, I will. But for now – stick a fork in me, I’m done!

Do You Akismet?

I just sent this on to the Akismet team, but wanted to post it here also in case anyone had advice for me.  (Also, if you know of any really cool, must have WP 2.0 plugins, feel free to let me know.  I *heart* plugins.)

When I log into review the “Caught Spam” I get conflicting numbers.  I just installed it last night.  First, at the top, it reads, “Akismet has caught 37 for you since you installed it.”

37.  Great.  Perfect.

Then just below (in the same box), it reads, “There are currently 16 comments identified as spam.”  Ok, 16 … what happened to 37?  Or are duplicates not counted?

Then, just below that, there are only 9 comments displayed for me to review.  Not 37 or even 16.  Just 9.

I’m so confused.

Any thoughts?

Fancy Fresh!

As you can see (well, if you’re not reading this via RSS, I guess), Mike upgraded my WP install last night to the brand new fancy fresh WP 2.0. So far, so good! Even though it only took him a few minutes to do the upgrade, I had reached my maximum online time already and could tell that any more typing was not a wise idea, so he hooked me up!
As an added bonus, comments are now going live right away! Yeah! I had one or two waiting for moderation, but not 100 (or 1000, or 2000) like I have sometimes in the past. I never could find what was causing the problem with my anti-spam list in my previous WP install. I’m sure there was a blank space in there somewhere, but I couldn’t see it. I’m just happy that it is behaving now! I had Mike set up Akismet for me also – have to contribute to the greater good of hunting down spam! I’m always hesitant to use services that will affect my site if they go down though – what happens if Akismet goes down?

I decided to go with the default template for the moment until I iron some kinks out with my old one. The Pink Paris template is too narrow for my photographs – I need a main column at least 520 pixels wide – so for now, default it is. I’m sure I’ll be tweaking it more over the next week before I go back to school.

Only complaint so far? I’m used to hitting “Enter” twice between paragraphs when writing a post. When I do that in WP 2.0, it translates to something like 3-4 returns instead of just two. Nice of them to make it double space for me, but it is going to take some getting used to using!

Let me know if you see anything wonky going on – especially if you use the RSS feed. I still need to check that out myself. This is so exciting – I have to admit, I think I was still on WP 1.2! I feel so cutting edge now! (Want to learn more about WordPress 2.0? Newsforge has a great article. Thanks to Matt for the link.)

Amazon Plugin…

Miracle (Widescreen Edition) I decided to try out adding a plugin to my site, and damn, was that easy! (Yes, I had to distract myself from the frustration of my CSS issues. Grrr…) I added the WP Amazon plugin, and … bam! It works! Simply amazing. After being so used to fighting with tweaks and hacks, using the Plugin feature of WP is a breeze!

Now it’s time for a good, tasty filet to help celebrate the 4th of July!

Cookie Crumbs…

I first spotted it over at Anil’s site, and then I noticed it at Mike’s. After his comment to my Ch-ch-changes post, I decided it was time to add one too … Cookie Crumbs has now been launched in the sidebar on the default skin.

I’ve had a blog for a long time that I leave in “draft” mode where I link things I want to go back to for whatever reason. They are normally not things worthy of a full posts here, nothing more than a link and a few words to remind me what it is.

I’ll be adding in categories over time so that things will be easier to find in the future. Enjoy!
